Married men wear a ring to the office?
« on: January 15, 2014, 12:51:01 PM »
Is this a good idea? Do you do so?

Will women be even less reserved with you because it feels "safe"? Or more reserved because they'll understand you're off limits? Doesn't your yarlmuke make you off limits enough?

I wear one and I don't think it makes a difference. The women in my office know and understand that i'm off limits without it. I wear it because I've found patients trust a married man more. Go figure

Anything a Yarmulka won't do a ring won't do either...
Unless it's a single girl looking for a Shidduch :)

Do you think partners and clients will trust a married man more? Maybe I should wear one for that.

On the other hand, maybe being single implies more commitment to the firm.

In my experience it doesn't make an iota of a difference. People will make their decision based on how they perceive your capabilities to deliver, regardless of you being single, married, white, black, straight, gay etc..

So no, your ring will not affect their decision one way or the other. (and frankly, nor will your yarmulke.)

I wear one. I find that it can go either way.

In college I think a ring is a good thing, many people don't know a yalkmuka means you're off limits, but a ring they do understand and won't even try.

Assuming you don't wear one usually, why don't you ask Daas Torah instead of a bunch of people online?

His question had nothing to do with halacha.

I am daas torah. I'm doing my factual research here.

I'm impressed.
From my experience, a lot of LORs don't understand the dynamic of the workplace. When I asked about handshaking, all I heard was, "explain to them that you can't shake their hands and they'll respect you for it." First, it's not practical. Second, it's not true.

haha, that's funny chabad would say a competent mashpia. I read it quickly.

Anyway I think hearing many peoples opinions is a good thing. Especially since some can speak from experience.
