In all honesty, im curious about this.

Does the hardcore yeshivish/chareidi crowd really view MO in the same light as reform jews (or perhaps worse)?

When in YU, it always bothered me when people, who diabolically oppose YU and would completely flip if their child chose to go there, came to collect money for their yeshiva in the YU minyanim.

If people really view us as ashamed of Judaism or reformed, it should extend to our wallets.

I really hope most folk dont agree with churnbabychurn, but the yeshivish/chareidi, what is your thought on MO? are we reformed? perverse? worse bc we think we are ortho but really just reform?
I believe you're just as orthodox as I am (and I'm chassidish, btw).
It's just that your rabbi pasken'd differently than my my rabbi on a few topics.
Just as the litvish shave men's beard and don't shave women's head, but our rabbis told us to shave women's head but not men's beard. And no one believes the litvish are less orthodox than the chassidish.
Same here, as long as you follow what your rabbi told you you're the same Jew as I am.
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

Everyone moves back and forth at a Matisyahu concert.  And most of them are high.

Lol, I think he was talking metaphorically. His point was more that if music makes you gyrate your hips, it's not Jewish.

I heard from a Rav that if the music makes you move back and forth (shukeling), it's Jewish. If it makes you move side to side, it's not.
I invite you to Seder Niggunim at my Yeshivah, sit half the guys used to shake back and forth and half side to side. I guess that makes Chabad Niggunim half-Jewish? ;D

Don't feel bad. CBC and others made it pretty clear that being chabad is as bad it gets, so you're at least 1 step up on me ;)

always an honor Dan.

What an absurd statement. The Reform follow their Rabbi too.

Congrats to you and YankyD (both bearded folk) for being so level headed in this thread.
Though I will admit to chuckling to Freddie's point of cherry picking RM"F teshuvos.  I guess it's good to have many Rabbis for when you need each the most ;)

The difference being, reform don't follow Halacha and the MO do!

Let's assume he meant Orthodox.

Have you ever criticized the satmar hashkafa? How about the yeshivish one?

Let's assume he meant Orthodox.
The point is that the Rabbi's affiliation, whether it be orthodox or reform or something else entirely, is not particularly relevant (though obviously people care about that too). What's relevant is whether or not the Rabbi is paskening k'halacha, and by extension whether the person following that Rabbi is following halacha.

i definitely dont agree with the hashkafa but, as long the community is financially sustainable and doesn't embarrass everyone else by doing things, as a collective, that are illegal and perceived by the public as 'those Jews again', they can enjoy their hashkafa.

i believe in college and secular education as a end unto itself, but if others dont and can find away to support their community, best of luck.

One thing, I would not include the Neturai Karta within the realm of Satmar.

If you do, then well, I could not say the words in DDF that I choose for them.

Bit of a slippery slope there. What's embarrassing to one isn't to another.

Ex of embarrassing: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/24/nyregion/24jersey.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

way to use tzedaka as a means of money laundering and tax evasion.  real smooth

I think you quoted half a sentence. Here is the whole thing

doesn't embarrass everyone else by doing things, as a collective, that are illegal and perceived by the public as 'those Jews again'
