I'm sure the NSA knows whether someone is mixing horsemilk into the milk.
Just to be clear on your position, the gov't is not to be trusted with public health/vaccines but can be trusted for religious jewish purposes?

Let me know when I can ask about the M&M's?  :)

Will someone be straight with the Count and spell out the M&M's thing?
Or at least add it to the poll as an option. That and shaving with a machine that the rov has to pull a hair out of his drawer and poke through the foil to test.

I'm not saying it's equivalent, but the government supervision of dairy farms is because of health reasons, not religious ones.

Except that the gov't has said in correspondence that they don't monitor nor test the source of milk.

I just said it's not equivalent. My point was that the reason why the government cares at all about vaccines and the reason they care about the milk is the same - public health.

This thread reminds me of what I once heard from a bal darshen,
He said; There are 2 types of yiden, one type has 613 mitzvahs which he would do it to the best of his abilities to the utmost,

The 2nd type yid has 613 PROBLEMS which he has to deal with, so when anybody in general has a problem he would look for a solution to the problem,
So the 2nd type yid would always look for a solution [heter] to his problem...

As someone who doesn't shave I found that visual quite amusing, though it's not nearly as weird as some other things Rabbis have to look at...

He was making a joke that he doesn't know what M&M's are because he's never eaten them.

There is a law that Jews can only eat milk (and it's derivatives) if the milking was supervised by a Jew. This is known as Chalav Yisroel. As such many members here have never had an M&M. Rav Moshe Feinstein is famous for giving a heter because of government supervision.

A hetter with conditions.

+1
in addition to that, the heter rom RavMoshe Feinstein was for relying on the go'vt in cases where
providing for the babies and young children who have access to nothing else..

fascinating how that turns into indulgence of (sometimes the overeating of) :
Dunkin Donuts, double stuffed Oreos and coldstone creamery ice cream - they all fit into Rav Feinstein's category?..

Oreos aren't dairy

Oreos are כלים
+1 true   > OU d.e.
not a good example.
was referring to the contrast of Rav Feinstein approving of (gov't supervised) milk for youngsters to drink
when there is no other local option vs. indulgence in boxes of: Krispy Kreme, DDonuts, Hershey's, baskin robbins, M&Ms, kit-kats, snickers, etc..

I also think M&Ms are milk powder and thus there is a separate heter from R Tzvi Pesach Frank

Just to set things straight it is not R' Moshe's heter it precedes him almost 400 years to the Shach and he's reliable for me even on indulging
