Question, do the charaidim in the room think its ok to oppose secular education, including college, then collect tzedaka from the people who earn more because they went to college?

Thats such a typical MO/mizrachi bouges claim.

99% of ppl in BP aren't getting/living on tzedakah and for sure not from the modern orthodox.

Am i aloud to disagree with that quote?

Yes, I think on an individual level YMMV.  But, I think you'd agree that overall the avg MO who attended college has a better chance of earning a higher income than one in a more RW community who didn't attend college.

I think shlaros means that due to going to college, the community as a whole is more well-off than communities that look down on college.

The OU, a MO Hechsher is one of the most reliable Hechsherim out there. Some people have highter standards for Cholov Yisroel, Bishul Yisroel etc. does that mean we look down on the OU? It just means we don't rely on certain Heterim which are perfectly acceptable to others, each one at his level...

Regarding hechsherim, it's just one example, and we can argue about that, it's not only that the OU uses heteirim, there are some people who would eat anything with a "Heimishe" (read: Hebrew lettering) hechsher, even if they knew nothing about said hechsher, but wouldn't touch OU with a ten stick pole, or eat out of an MO's kitchen.

The OU is not a MO hechsher. I wouldn't consider Rav Belsky MO. It is part of an organization that has MO components though.
Ironicaly enough, even the "Heimishe" hechsherim rely on the OU. Certain international industrial products are only supervised by the OU. They are the only ones with the resources to certify them

You can stop right there, I for one think it's not OK.
There's also a difference between holding that it's okay to go to college in order to make a living, and holding that secular education is integral to being the best person you can be.

ETA: Didn't mean to quote you Moishel, meant to quote shlaros.

It's my community, my brothers, why should I not care?
Not why do you care about them, why do you care if they get a secular education or not?

TITCR. Kashrus division is the chareidi division of the OU. And in a bizarre twist, the chareidi division funds the MO enterprises of the rest of it.

LA is correct.

The are obviously ppl who are incredibly successful without education, but its on average.

and I have no idea how ppl support themselves.  I also no that MO ppl don't go to willamsburg asking for $$ to support our schools and shuls, but i no that ppl from RW yeshivos come to teaneck all the time (i see them, they knock on my door).

Wow, what're interesting read.  I fell behind and had to catch up on 10 pages.  There were a number of things I wanted to quote nod comment on but I didn't bother because how do you quote something from 10 pages ago?

I was surprised no one quoted the infamous NYT article from 11 years ago from that groisse chic hem randi cohen.

The courteous and competent real-estate agent I'd just hired to rent my house shocked and offended me when, after we signed our contract, he refused to shake my hand, saying that as an Orthodox Jew he did not touch women. As a feminist, I oppose sex discrimination of all sorts. However, I also support freedom of religious expression. How do I balance these conflicting values? Should I tear up our contract? Yeshivos is a bad example. If someone is asking for money because they choose to learn, it doesn't matter whether they support secular education or not, your money is supporting the learning, not the 'not going to college'. If however they can't make a living and the only reason is because they refuse to go to college, then maybe I can see the irony.

Basically what you're saying is that the reason they're in the position of asking for your support is because of their shita of not going to college. Doesn't sound right when put that way, but that's what it comes down to.

Great find.  I don't agree with the response at all, even though I was one of the proponents of shaking hands in a business context.  Yet, you have to admit that these are the messages we're sending even though in no way, shape, or form do we want to offend them in any capacity.

Meant to post it, was the first thing I thought of when I read the thread.  That response created quite a stir in the jewish media back then.
