Flying with a baby on aa using avios
« on: January 16, 2014, 11:22:26 AM »
I purchased a ticket for myself using avios. I am flying on a domestic flight. When I called to ask about adding my baby (who will be sitting on my lap) they told me I would have to pay for it. Can I just add him when I get to the airport? Will there be any charges if done in the airport?

Avios should be 10% of award price for infant.

to make it clear british airways will charge you 10 % of the avios plus some taxes even for domestic,
best thing to do is to call AA they can add the infant on the phone for no charge , that's even to canada

For domestic, best option is to just add the infant at the airport.

Anything I need to know or say? Do I just tell them when I check in that I am also traveling with an infant?

Can there be any issues with not doing it over the phone?

I never had an issue. Flew a lot of times without adding infant before arriving at the airport

But if you're going to Canada, arrive at the airport early. No one seems to know how to do it properly in the system. (The one benefit of my kid turning 2 :( )

Yes, if you're running late at the airport. Why not call AA and ad the infant?

Can't this be taken care of by calling aa right after you book online? And there will be no charge

It's around $17 in taxes. No one can figure out how to price it on the phone. It will take minimum a half hour. And them they still may not do it

IME and I've done this many times  AA never asked for $$$ nor has it taken a half hour.

for a recent LGA-YYZ-LGA trip with our infants, we added them over the phone with aa for free to Toronto. We still had to allow extra time at the airport to get them properly ticketed. As I recall for the return trip, AA collected approximately $15-$20 in taxes per child.
