I was just thinking about how sometimes a big trip can actually be stressful instead of relaxing.
What part of a trip stresses you out? Planning, booking, unforeseen expenses etc.?

I probably spend more time planning/researching the trip than the trip itself. I love the planning stage and enjoying the excitement of looking forward to the trip.

There used to be some anxiety with respect to the flights with kids but after a couple of flights you learn how to manage and plan for it.

While on vacation there is very little stress involved. If something on our itinerary doesn't get done it just gives us an excuse to come back. Even if the day is jam packed you still need to just go with the flow, especially with kids.

I believe the RMB"M says that if we all lived alone in a forest we would be happy living in a hut with one blanket.

Pretty sure that's not true. Do you have a source?

Dan how many pictures do you take on your vacations?

If it's all about 'enjoying the moment' then why take so many?

Oh, right.

My wife takes so many pictures bit just during vacation
It's a great way to relive your memories

I'm just starting to put together a theme from these kinds of posts.

You seem to seriously deride the fact that people enjoy the most pleasurable things in life: kids, vacations, etc.
And say that nobody can possibly really enjoy them, all that's possible is that they just like posting pictures on FB about [Insert: Kids, marriage, vacations, etc] but really it's just miserable.

Not everyone is that miserable.  Life is challenging, sure.  But that doesn't mean we're all getting by each day by faking it.
Ok. I'm happy to address these.

First of all there is no derision. If people enjoy showing off what they have, that is normal human behavior. The only issue I have with that FB feed bloated with show off pics is that showing off your good fortune hurts others which leads to 'Facebook depression' - a serious problem that I did NOT invent.

Second: I Never said that 'nobody can possibly enjoy things and that everyone is miserable, and the only thing possible is posting pics' please do not say that I said that, this is just taking my arguments to an extreme and then poking holes in them.

Third, all I said was that people clearly enjoy telling others about their vacations. C'mon how can you argue with that?

What is so sensitive about that? Did I touch a nerve? Is it such a bad thing to want to tell ppl about your vacation that no one wants to be accused of it? The only reason I mentioned it was to make the point that vacations may be less inherently fun if a portion of the fun is telling people about it.
Work is what you do between vacations.

+1000

When I look at pictures I remember it as if I was there. Looking back at some pics from when I was a little kid I can't even tell if the memory is real from when I was a kid or just from looking at the pic.

Also since I don't put any of my pics on FB or a blog I guess I can say I go on vacations for MYSELF  :o

+1 (I didn't realize he was quoting the Rambam). Doesn't the Rambam say that a person needs a dirah naeh to live bharchavas hadaas.

Two really slow days at work. They should give me more work so I don't waste my whole day

When you really think about it - In a way your comments are just as show-offy and annoying as the people posting the pix on Facebook albeit your goals are a little different

There is a difference between enjoying sharing your happy moments with others and NEEDING to share pictures and facts in order for it to have been a enjoyable.

It doesn't take a genius to look around that world of Facebook and Instagram to realize that people can't get enough of showing off what they have and rubbing it in other people's faces.

I believe the RMB"M says that if we all lived alone in a forest we would be happy living in a hut with one blanket.

So drop this idea that I must be crazy for observing something that is clearly true and affirmed by the RMB"M. Every time a guy builds a big house his neighbors can thank him because he is doing it to impress them.

And you can imagine how much happier you'd be in the first with a nice house...
