Tablets
« on: January 17, 2014, 09:48:32 AM »
Does anyone here use one in/for school?
My wife wants something lite and portable to take to school (rather then out big 15inch laptop) ,
She says they mostly follow along on a online slides show...
Will a tablet do the job?

As far as I know there is no Microsoft word for tablets- but are there any good replacement apps that you can type reports on?
Can you download and view/edit word documents??

Any input appreciated!

My wife used to commute back and forth to the city for school and used an iPad to follow along with slides - downside is she couldn't really figure out how to take notes on the slides directly on the iPad  - but we didn't run through an entire case of paper printing those slides every semester and she was happier carrying an iPad instead of tons of messy papers.

My wife is in the same situation. I just downloaded an app for my iPad called cloud on. It allows you to view/edit word docs pp docs and probably any other docs that you have backed up in cloud storage.

What type of schooling? What type of work will you be using it for?

Mostly needed to download and view slides, and some online work.
Would be a big plus if she can actually write a word document on it though...

She hate when computers / tablets have a slow response - ESP to touch - so that has to be factored in as well...

Any interest in a windows tablet? Can use Powerpoint then. If not, what would she like better, IOS or Android. It just depends what she will like better. I believe both should work. Personally I wont get the kindle fire for this

Definitely the surface.
I've got a surface and an Ipad 3 and from my personal experience the surface is much better (simply because you can do so much more with it, for example, you can edit two documents at the same time side by side).
Or if you're fine with an 8 inch tablet there are loads of 8 inch windows tablet under $300.

Thanks! glad to hear a good review on the surface.
The 64gb version is on sale now for 300$, so i will probably go ahead with that.

This is the best deal if ur looking for the cheapest option.
If you want to spend a bit more theres the surface 2 or the surface pro / pro 2.
In my humble opinion its great.

@ bestbuy now checking out the surface2 and surface pro2, the 2 seems lighter in weight, what you reccomend?.
Could Quickbooks 2013 be loaded on the surface 2?.

If you don't mind spending the extra cash go for the pro 2. It's like a full powerful pc in a tablet.

Any recommendations for a stylus for an ipad?
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.
