Correct - There is no kashering between runs necessary,
It's just a 1-2 day per year mashgiach to certify that all the dairy chips are out of the vicinity for the packaging process of the pareve chips.
Because for allergen reasons they cannot guarantee that one single dairy chip will never enter into the packaging, the Ok said that it needs to be marked dairy.

How expensive can a one-day Mashgiach be that it's not worth for a sale of another 1,000 cases?
The cases we bought had an expiration date 18 months out --
I was told that TJ's did not see enough of a drop off in sales, so they are not investing in the Ok pareve certification.
..wish they would..  (about Rest. Depot, taste powdery, not as creamy)
will run out of TJ's stock soon -
Anyone have inside information into the OK that can make a change?

Response from the OK:

Good afternoon,
The best and only way that his could happen is if consumers get together and complain to Trader Joes.
We have tried to put on pressure but they do not want to pay for mashgiach to supervise the packing.
Have a great day."

Thank YOU!
That's exactly what I was told -
and somehow TJs is not seeing that it's worth their while - so if 1,000 DDF fans sign something together, perhaps they can make another run or two per year - This is NOT a big money issue..
-- this is not a daily mashgiach that's needed, it's just 1-2 supervised packing runs per year -
Let's make this happen! (My case and Dan's cases are running low. Many friends have none left - this is easy to fix)
Thanks Ushdadude - what else can we do?

I just saw 3 kinds of Ben & Jerry's.
1 is imported from America, 1 is produced in Israel and is C"Y, and 1 is produced in Israel but it says it contains chalav staam powdered milk.

Are you saying that you like the mispacha cc's?
Or that it's been over a year since your TJs stash?

(I'll be in NY this week - maybe a personal visit to the OK?)

I really miss the TJ's, it's like Pesach all year as far as the cc's, and I love Pesach and all, but...

TJs aren't kosher for Pesach, but, ye - I know what you mean,
inferior "wanna-be" chocolate flavored chips..
I've been rationing, and knew that the 3 cases would run out eventually..
as I did last year - ready to talk to whomever it takes in the OK -
They hadn't seen sales decline at that point - Anyone know current facts?

The OK is willing. TJs needs to be willing to pay for the mashgiach to check the packaging process though. Perhaps we can sponsor a private run???

Do I see a business deal? Would they let us buy a run and sell it in the frummy stores?

I would buy some for myself but as a dentist I can't see myself selling candy to other people. :P

Quote
Dear Ushdadude,

Thank you for feedback.  We are sorry to write that at this time our supplier does not have any plans to change the certifying agency for their facilities.

We have been updating our allergen statements on our products to reflect updated FDA standards as well as our customer feedback. There have been no ingredient, recipe or change in the manufacture of the chips themselves. Trader Joe's will no longer be using the statement 'made on equipment' and will transition to 'may contain trace amounts', while none of the manufacturing or production of the product has changed.

What has changed is that our supplier of the chocolate chips has recently made some changes to the cleaning process used for the piece of equipment that puts the chips into bags. These changes (going from a "wet" to a "dry" cleaning regimen) triggered the need for an FDA regulated, dairy-related allergen statement, and this in turn brought about a change in the Kosher certification for our item--going from "Kosher Parve" to "Kosher Dairy."

The kosher status will not be changing again at this time.

Sincerely,
Amy
Trader Joe's
Customer Relations

So we don't need TJs to make a run for us. We need to find out who their supplier is and talk to them directly. ;)

Gut gezokt.

Except, we probably won't pay the same price TJ's pays.
