WK is buying them in bulk (i.e. before them going through the bagging machine) and packaging them themselves. (at least this is what I was told by the person who's house I saw them in.)
IIRC they were $3.49 a package.

I saw them during the summer, I can't say for certain that my info is current.

Perfect -
1) How can we do that? (Their $3.49 is prob less than the 12 oz bag of $2.29 TJ price. Plus, they (WK) box them and those don't look sealed.
2) who's hechsher? Who's supervising this?
They're not just taking the oK-D bags and and relying on the rabbi that says it's fine?
so - let's do the same thing with zip lock bags

It can't be too difficult to find a (kosher/kasherable) plant with a bagging machine to do a run.

yes - I know of a plant here that does dried fruit/nuts - not under hashgacha -
this city also has an OK rabbi that can oversee the day or 2 that it may take for bagging.. (would like to keep an OK on pkg. even if no other special labels)
so the chips originate in which city?
they ship them in 50 lb boxes to a bagging plant?

I'm not so sure that Western Kosher is doing what we are proposing..
(either they invested in cases of the old stash (O-K pareve) or they are relying on a rabbi that says that the the OK-D is just an allergy pre-caution of the one dairy chip in a million...

Last time I saw the WK chips there was not an O-K parve on the packaging..
They are prob not making their own run - Who can ask?
And what hechsher are they showing now?
I can ask Western. Haven't been following this conversation though, want to give me a quick summary?

Sure -
Wed like to get our own batch of OK parve TJs choc chips
in the east coast area, as they do, but ideally sealed and with an OK hechsher.
So:
1) how do they get theirs parve when TJs can't?
2) can we get in on the wholesale purchase as a group - 400 case equivilent?
3) once we are doing all that why don't we just pay the original way in the original plant if it's possible to do currently?

if we need a 1000 case minimum, and there's at least a guarantee of 600 cases being taken (with minimal hock.) then I would take care of the rest

gr8, thx
There's more to it, but that's a start
Those are the main points - My 3 case purchase is still fresh, over a year later, so whatever we invest in will last 1-2 years. We can get big quantity.
but supply is running low and all this time I've been comparing the Shoprite cc's,
the rest. Depot, etc...
+As Dan said, the TJs are much better..

they are noticebly better when 'blind taste test'
however what makes them worth buying by the case is that: they stay fresh, melt well (even in microwave wth nothing added), they don't turn white,
work for dipping, etc...

they were apprx $120 per case retail at TJs - hopefully by buying wholesale, paying for mashgiach, and packaging, we can keep it the same..
to make it efficient as a group we may need to make a 10 case minimum - will see how the numbers for an annual run come back

WK doesn't sell TJ's. He manufactures cc with a similar formula.
What will our cost per pound of chocolate be?

So we don't need TJs to make a run for us. We need to find out who their supplier is and talk to them directly. ;)
Everything seems to point to Barry-Callebaut being the manufacturer if someone wants to contact them directly.

Through their website I came up with a sales rep Alain Freymond direct number is 3124967328 or 8664430460 for general info.

thx for posting
Wondering who's hashgacha is on it..
still more expensive than the $120 TJ's cost and in bulk, which is inferior if not using all at once..
