I know when I booked a flight for 2 people, Southwest gave me 2 separate confirmation numbers.
In that case, I would need to check in for each person separately.

Not that I'm aware of. I just bit the bullet and paid for early bird. Just my wife and I and it takes a load of stress off flying.

Checked in this morning for my wife and I and two kids. Had my the app and safari open on my iphone and chrome and incognito chrome open on my desktop at the same time and quickly checked us all in as soon as 24 hours hit. Got A39-42. Success.

I personally don't mind paying for menuchas hanefesh (especially since the flight itself and luggage is free)

I hear that. Also, if you pay $12.50 for one person, then that person can likely hold a middle seat for their spouse.

if the spouse gets c boarding, get ready to fight for it (unless you are trying to save a middle seat all the way in the back) People get very "ethical" when they want a seat. "you can't save seats"

So I paid for eb and there are only 18 people on our flight. Didn't even bother with the lineup

Slightly OT but it is known that there is ONE seat on a Southwest plane that is actually worth grabbing. That is the one in back of the exit row on the right side (if you're walking from front to back.)

The thing is, most people who pay for early bird don't know about that seat. They are stuck in a mentality that the front of the plane is "first class" even though there is only one big economy cabin in a southwest aircraft.

My point is that sometimes you can be a relatively low number and still get that seat.
