Topic Wiki

All the information below seems to be dead. SW recently updated their site to include a new page after the checkin page and the scripts don't seem to get past that.
Luckily, AJK found a new option that seems to be better than anything available before - you don't even need to leave your computer running for it to work!
UPDATE: This new option doesn't seem to be working either

Update: The userscripts website seems to be down. In case the links below don't work, try the links in parenthesis.)

Instructions:

1. Install the script. http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/45170 (http://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/45170)

2. Go to the Southwest check in page and another box with date and time input field will appear under the standard check in fields.

3. Fill in your confirmation number and name as usual in the first box.

4. In the second box, fill in the date and time that is exactly 24 hours before your flight.

(I usually offset it by a second to allow for any inconsistencies between your computer's clock and the Southwest server clock.)

5. Leave the page open, print out your boarding pass once it checks you in and enjoy your early boarding position.  :)

6. Each passenger needs a separate browser or an incognito window. (Multiple Incognito windows/tabs of the same browser will not count as separate).

This is better kept on the hush hush as Southwest is known to hunt down and shut down these kinds of tricks.

If the above does not work for you, try this:
- Go to this script http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/151875. (http://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/151875)
- Under the green Install button on the right, click "How do I use this?".
- Find the section on Chrome and under "Using Tampermonkey" click the link "Chrome's Webstore". This will download Tampermonkey for you.
- Go back to the userscript URL and now click the green Install button. It will install it through Tampermonkey and, at least for me, there was nothing else to do.
- Check out SW's checkin page http://www.southwest.com/flight/retrieveCheckinDoc.html?forceNewSession=yes and it should show the date/time to checkin.

Do so many ppl really buy the early bird? I checked in at exactly 24:00 before my flight and got C03.

Doesn't really matter since I do family boarding...

Are you sure it was 24 hours? it goes by timezone of flight so you could have been an hour or 2 (or more) late

Five of us are flying CUN-BOS (via BWI) two weeks from tomorrow. The CUN-BWI flight is sold out. We are a family of 5 with all kids too old to allow us "family boarding". Because of Shabbos, we won't be able to check in until 12 hours before the flight.  Is it worth one of us paying for early check in, and then stowing overhead bags and saving seats? Is that even possible without appearing to be a jerk?  (I have never been able to get auto-checkin to work for me.)

I did it after Pesach last year but I was only traveling with 1 other person. Worst case scenario, you get eye rolls and glares.

just had that on a southwest flight, paid $30 to upgrade at the gate. I was only traveling with one other person, the gate guy let me bring 2 wheelies (only allowed one) and a personal bag to get the overhead space. I told the flight attendant that I was holding the other seat for my wife. She stood there the entire boarding process (wife was C27!) and told people the seat was taken.

Good for you. That is very unusual

Thanks. Agree with tzifanya54 that it seems unusual to get that kind of support from the FA.

Thanks. I get eye rolls and stares even when I'm on my best behavior, so I am accustomed.

"family boarding". Because of Shabbos, we won't be able to check in until 12 hours before the flight.

Ask a LOR, but maybe someone in Eretz Yisrael can check in when shabbos ends there.

Any auto check in sites available? Or do I have to pay the $15 so I don't have to be checking exactly 24hrs before manually?

Flying on a 6:15am Sunday flight, but won't be able to check in until Motzei Shabbos (so less than 12 hrs before the flight). Flying with my wife. Does it make sense to use auto-checkin, or will we be OK for a group of 2 to sit together with regular check-in?

Also, does it work to Auto-checkin for one person and save a seat for a second person coming with regular boarding?
