Topic Wiki

All the information below seems to be dead. SW recently updated their site to include a new page after the checkin page and the scripts don't seem to get past that.
Luckily, AJK found a new option that seems to be better than anything available before - you don't even need to leave your computer running for it to work!
UPDATE: This new option doesn't seem to be working either

Update: The userscripts website seems to be down. In case the links below don't work, try the links in parenthesis.)

Instructions:

1. Install the script. http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/45170 (http://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/45170)

2. Go to the Southwest check in page and another box with date and time input field will appear under the standard check in fields.

3. Fill in your confirmation number and name as usual in the first box.

4. In the second box, fill in the date and time that is exactly 24 hours before your flight.

(I usually offset it by a second to allow for any inconsistencies between your computer's clock and the Southwest server clock.)

5. Leave the page open, print out your boarding pass once it checks you in and enjoy your early boarding position.  :)

6. Each passenger needs a separate browser or an incognito window. (Multiple Incognito windows/tabs of the same browser will not count as separate).

This is better kept on the hush hush as Southwest is known to hunt down and shut down these kinds of tricks.

If the above does not work for you, try this:
- Go to this script http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/151875. (http://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/151875)
- Under the green Install button on the right, click "How do I use this?".
- Find the section on Chrome and under "Using Tampermonkey" click the link "Chrome's Webstore". This will download Tampermonkey for you.
- Go back to the userscript URL and now click the green Install button. It will install it through Tampermonkey and, at least for me, there was nothing else to do.
- Check out SW's checkin page http://www.southwest.com/flight/retrieveCheckinDoc.html?forceNewSession=yes and it should show the date/time to checkin.

You need to use two browsers or an incognito window for two people.
I attempted incognito but it didn't display the check in time option. With (as far as I know) chrome with tampermonkey the only working option, I had no choice.

Regardless, I imagine the first reservation should have worked. Might need to delay the check in a few seconds longer next time.

Chrome disables all extensions by default in incognito mode. You need to specifically enable it to work in incognito.

It's working! Thanks to help from Deal Man, I was playing around with Tamper Monkey and also found this other script (http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/151875) based on the original guy's script. I tried this one before, and it did not work, but when I downloaded TM today and then this script, it worked! Hurrah! Wikifying now.

Does the computer need to stay on for this method?

Yes. The scripts run locally on your computer.

If you have 2 people on the same Confirmation code do you have to check off "who is checking in"  by each person individually making this useless for shabbos checkin.

i had my itinerary on auto check in set from five days ago, and this morning, when the clock finally reached zero, i guess because the computer wasnt open, the page never loaded to check me in. so twenty min into the 24 hour mark i checked in and all i got was group C position 16!!! darn it!!!

What about companion pass? it's two different confirmation numbers so it's fine?

For companion needs to be done on either 2 different comps, or 2 different browsers. I tried 1 incognito and one standard on Chrome and it didn't work.

if one person has a higher boarding number they usually let you go on together

True. But people in the line might not be thrilled to see it...

Everyone snoops around to see everyone elses boarding number.
Also when people are trying to find their spot on line they will realize by default.

I've never flown SW yet, I do intend on in the future as I have the companion pass...

If I get this running properly and I am not near the computer to print the boarding pass (as I won't be close to the computer) will it change the boarding number when I get to the airport and get it reprinted?
I only paid 15% by switching to dansdeals

No
You can even recheck in on the computer at a late time and the boarding position will stay the same (then print....)

+1. People are meant and encouraged by SW to ask the people around them in line. Can make it awkward and people possibly upset. Better to just get you both together.

Anyone else (besides askmoses) have experience trying to check-in 2 people with 1 regular Chrome browser and 1 Incognito browser? Was not able to get this to work in Firefox, so I really would like to hear that Incognito will work. :-D

Does the computer need to stay on for this method?

Sorry ushdadude didn't see this till now. As others said, computer needs to stay on. Is there a way to get email notifications when someone quotes you in a post?

About to attempt this for the first time. 2 pax (one is my Companion), so I have 1 set up properly in Chrome, but I was never able to get FireFox to install the script correctly. Has anyone had success doing 2 pax in Chrome with 1 in Incognito? I see the report above that Incognito did not work. Any successful reports?

Did you enable the script and extension for incognito?
