Topic Wiki

All the information below seems to be dead. SW recently updated their site to include a new page after the checkin page and the scripts don't seem to get past that.
Luckily, AJK found a new option that seems to be better than anything available before - you don't even need to leave your computer running for it to work!
UPDATE: This new option doesn't seem to be working either

Update: The userscripts website seems to be down. In case the links below don't work, try the links in parenthesis.)

Instructions:

1. Install the script. http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/45170 (http://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/45170)

2. Go to the Southwest check in page and another box with date and time input field will appear under the standard check in fields.

3. Fill in your confirmation number and name as usual in the first box.

4. In the second box, fill in the date and time that is exactly 24 hours before your flight.

(I usually offset it by a second to allow for any inconsistencies between your computer's clock and the Southwest server clock.)

5. Leave the page open, print out your boarding pass once it checks you in and enjoy your early boarding position.  :)

6. Each passenger needs a separate browser or an incognito window. (Multiple Incognito windows/tabs of the same browser will not count as separate).

This is better kept on the hush hush as Southwest is known to hunt down and shut down these kinds of tricks.

If the above does not work for you, try this:
- Go to this script http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/151875. (http://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/151875)
- Under the green Install button on the right, click "How do I use this?".
- Find the section on Chrome and under "Using Tampermonkey" click the link "Chrome's Webstore". This will download Tampermonkey for you.
- Go back to the userscript URL and now click the green Install button. It will install it through Tampermonkey and, at least for me, there was nothing else to do.
- Check out SW's checkin page http://www.southwest.com/flight/retrieveCheckinDoc.html?forceNewSession=yes and it should show the date/time to checkin.

Please do not cross post, especially in a thread which has nothing to do with your question.

Does this work better than early bird check-in or is it just free?
Also would this work when the computer is in sleep mode?
I have a flight early Sunday morning (I won't be able to checkin till Motzei Shabbos) and really would like to get a good seat.

ask your LOR
If you're not machmir like R' Moshe, which most people aren't, why should it be different than putting an AC on a timer?

I'm helping somebody do this but they have 7 passengers and only 2 confirmation numbers. I see their SW confirmation email and it has 5 people under 1 # and 2 people under a second #. Does that make sense? I thought everyone gets their own #

Well this is interesting.

I had 1 window and 9 incognito's opened for the same flight:
1 for me (with my own confirmation #)
1 for my wife (with her own confirmation #)
1 for person A (with his confirmation #)
1 for person B (who had the same conf # as A)
1 for person C (who had the same conf # as A)
1 for person D (who had the same conf # as A)
1 for person E (who had the same conf # as A)
1 for person F (with her own confirmation #)
1 for person G (who had the same conf # as F)

I got B13
My wife got B26
Person A for B06
Person F got A27
The other 5 checked in but the boarding position that popped up was with the name and boarding number of Person A, which tells me that incognito either doesn't work or the fact that they had the same confirmation number as Person A, means they all board under his name, which just seems strange since I thought everyone has their own confirmation number. I thought perhaps incognito doesn't work and once the first one checked in, all incognito browsers just took his checkin, but my wife as well as person F were incognito and even though their checkin page had Person A's name and number, when I closed the tabs and re-checked them in, they had their own number including A27 which is way ahead of Person A's B06.

Interesting indeed.

AFAIK, multiple incognitos do not function as discrete episodes, i.e. all incognitos operate in the same sandbox as far as cookies etc are concerned, which likely caused the error.
