Is there a way to keep a small window on the computer to stay open, while typing on the background larger screen? Windows 8.

I use Desk Pins with Windows 7. If they're desktop programs and not full-screen apps, it should work with Windows 8 as well.

Works on windows 7 not sure about Win8
