You will receive a reward of 6% on the first $6,000 of eligible purchases in an annual reward year at supermarkets located in the U.S. (superstores and warehouse clubs are not considered supermarkets); 3% on eligible purchases of gasoline at gas stations located in the U.S. (superstores, supermarkets and warehouse clubs that sell gasoline are not considered gas stations); 3% on eligible purchases at select department stores located in the U.S. (the current list of select major department stores at which you can get a 3% reward is available at americanexpress.com/rewards-info ); and 1% on all other eligible purchases (and on supermarket shopping beyond $6,000).

The annual reward year referred to in the previous paragraph is 12 billing periods in a row beginning with the one that includes January 1st; if your billing cycle changes, the length of your annual reward year will also change.

Effective June 30, 2017, the "annual reward year" will be a calendar year:
You will earn a reward of 6% on the first $6,000 of eligible purchases in a calendar year at supermarkets located in the U.S. (superstores and warehouse clubs are not considered supermarkets); 3% on eligible purchases of gasoline at gasoline stations located in the U.S. (superstores, supermarkets and warehouse clubs that sell gasoline are not considered gas stations); 3% on eligible purchases at select department stores located in the U.S. (the current list of select major department stores at which you can earn a 3% reward is available at americanexpress.com/rewards-info ); and 1% on all other eligible purchases (and on supermarket shopping beyond $6,000).

After reading about the Pathmark madness, I guess it's not so hard to find $500 gc's in supermarkets, that can be purchased with cc. Also, I'd guess it's not the hardest thing to spend $6000/year in supermarkets, but I was still not on pace. Good thing I found $500 gc today! (5.95 purchase fee). I wonder how many store card points I'll get for my purchase and hope the local school gets 1%...
Is it easy to find $500 visa cards in stores, (besides the pathmark chain) or did I just get lucky?

Easy in most parts of the country. Do we really need a new thread?  :o
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Need = no
Want = yes...
Not enough info about the above subject... IMHO this is a lot less risky than the mo thread...

Why does no one talk about this Blue Cash card? Am I doing my math wrong or is this the highest earning card for regular purchases?
Which card gives you nearly 6% back for any purchase, I know the grocery purchases are capped at $6,000 but which other way are you
able to get a value of $360 for spending $6,000?
The Freedom card which gives 5% in rotating categories is only in ultimate reward points so the value in cash is much less because
UR points are only worth apx 1.4 cents each, that is nowhere near $360?
Am I missing something?

-$75 AF = $285

Anyway what math are you using? Freedom 5% categories is 30k UR a year. 30,000 x .014 (number you chose) = $420

+10% for checking.  And 1.4 is far less than what you'll get if you travel.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Actually forget that! The Freedom card only lets you get 5% for up to $1,500 per quarter but that is only in certain categories so the Blue Cash is still better.
And besides 6% for $6,000 in groceries you also get 3% for gas and clothing, so what beats that?

the 10% for checking is only a point dividend so that only makes it 5.5 points on a limited amount,
and 1.1 on all other points. that's not going to help much for the cash reward.

They're both good. Who said you have to pick between one and another?

You do pay the $75 for first year, but there is also signup bonus +SBS +Amazon $25's, and you can get 2*360 for 1 fee as the $6000 cap is per calendar year and annual fee is the other kind of year...

Back to the Q at hand. Both are good...

If you don't plan on churning credit cards and just want to play it simple you have to choose. In this case what you could do is just spend the $6k and then go to another card. That is true but I don't won't to deal with too many cards. (Saying that with 2 or 3 cards you guys probably think I'm crazy :-))

I called to cancel the card and they didnt offer me anything.  I asked them if there is anything they can do, they said they could downgrade me to the non preferred.

1) If I had Amazon Prime for a year (free) because of an .edu email addy, can I get it for a year free now with this Amex offer?

2) If I cancel my card in a month, can I still keep the free Prime?

Thanks

Does anyone know when the $6k cap on 6% cashback resets? Does it reset Jan 1st for everyone? Or is it based on your renewal date or the date you're billed for the annual fee?

thx
