Family financial Budgetting
« on: January 30, 2014, 02:18:39 PM »
Hi,
Has anyone out here, figured out a strategy how to budget for a married couple with a baby (or two soon iy"h?)
We are not big spenders, but having a hard time budgetting, I am sure some have a plan, which make things more organised, like how much is ideal to spend per week on different things, and what is the husband or wife's job to buy etc.

Would love to hear other people's way of planning this out well.

Thanks!

+1, and what one family needs is different than what another family needs. It's unlikely someone else's budget will be of help to you, maybe to get a framework, but the actual numbers will be different for each person

Start by writing every expense down for a few months.
The amount is not really the issue,(every person has different levels of living and diff priorities)  after you figure out what is important to you and your wife you monitor your spending to fit your budget that you create and then you are in control and don't need to worry.
The important thing is to know where your hard earned money is going.

It has been discussed here

http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=16863.0

There is no one to tell you exactly how to budget, obviously it depends on a lot of factors.

As Ergel wrote

First of all welcome to the forms I see its your first post! :)
But as everyone just told you everyone has there own Budget  for an example some people go out to eat every week, some people need different things that other people don't just write down how you spend your money and see how it works with what your Income is!

I'm a big fan of the YNAB system.

Totally different than a "traditional" budget, and -for me at least- works far better.

Is something wrong with the Dave Ramsey thing that I should know about? I just came across it recently.

Isn't Dave Ramsey the guy who says nobody should ever use credit cards, only debit cards?

as far as mint http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=25918.msg713282#msg713282
On a more serious note, since, couple with baby -> family size -> tuitions -> yom tov -> bar mitzvas -> Chasunas -> so much change, budgeting 101 will help but speaking to others/Mesila is probably a better direction to go...

And for people who get into debt that is some very good advice.
It seems to me that people who look for this kind of thing are all ready in trouble and need help getting out of debt.
Its a shame they don't teach budgeting in school.
