what do people use to seal their breakfronts to help slow tarnishing?
Recently used a glue gun. Worked great so far and is hardly noticeable as it goes on clear. Good luck!

Don't listen when they tell you to dispose of it when it comes with shoes etc

Is it worth lacquering candlesticks or a menora?
Best places in NYC to have it done?

It will eventually tarnish under it and then you will need to spend a lot of money to remove the lacquer to get it nice again. A good quality polish should last a while. We have been happy with Haggerty silversmiths polish more than others in their line
Is this common?

I lacquered my candelabra 9 years ago and it still looks good as new. I did it by Avinoam

I bought it new and he lacquered it before giving it to us. I'm assuming results may not be the same if it's already used.

Menora which sits in a closed china closet during the year doesn't turn gold or tarnish so there is no point of lacquering it. For a candelabra I'd recommend but it costs a hefty buck. I did mine at Eastern silver twice, they redid the antiquing as well.

Is this common?

He actually gave the answer right here.
I am talking about much longer than 3 years.

Lacquering isn't suppose to last forever, especially when you aren't careful enough on candle drippings, then when you rub that off, inevitably the lacquer will come off as well.

I lacquered my candlesticks 6 years. They are still gleaming like the day I got them. Don’t know how long it lasts but definitely worthwhile IMO.
A menorah is a different story though. It’s only used once a year so you’re not gaining as much. If it’s on display maybe, but if it’s in an air tight display it isn’t as necessary.

We had our candlesticks lacquered many years ago.  We didn't love how it looked and found an insect in the lacquer, so we had them remove it all.

Eventually the lacquer get tiny invisible chips that air gets through and it tarnishes. Obviously something that gets heavier use will show that more while candlesticks will show it less. An example where you can s it is on the silver on wood pieces. The silver is always lacquered and with time you start seeing tarnish that you can't get off.
