It's just way too busy for my taste. The device itself is great. If they would fix up that menu I might have gotten an S3. Meanwhile after that they are just getting too big for my smaller hands.
If they make a mini with the same specs I'd highly consider it. Too bad I'm dreaming.
One of the little reasons I miss the Iphone. It is a must to use 2 hands with the Galaxy.
It's not impossible to get by one handed. But it's getting harder and harder. You do adjust and get used to it as much as you can but eventually the screens just get too big. At least for my fingers. I personally swapped my g4 for the HTC One because my fingers were starting to hurt.
For the love of G-d YES! I was starting to think I'm the only sane one left in this world!
This fad of giant phones is ridiculous! I see Dan doesn't agree, and that's cool if the giant screen works for him. But personally, this is a problem that takes a lot more than just moving icons to a thumb-reachable corner. Applications spread important UI elements all over the screen these days, and now that physical buttons are also disappearing and becoming more limited (according to Google's latest design spec, menu and search buttons are now obsolete) we are forced to rely more and more on on-screen controls. But the screens are getting to big to reach around with one hand, and the unwieldy size keeps it from fitting in the palm of your hand, making you have to consciously grip while using it, and use two hands for most anything past the home screen.
At some point, the phone is taking too much of your attention to operate. At some point, you have to question the value of this even if you can get used to it. At some point
you have to question if you own the phone, or if the phone owns you. The truth is, most people say they just get used to it. I tried. I can't pull them out of my pockets as easily when sitting, I feel like they require too much conscious attention to use, and honest-to-goodness I think people holding them to their ear look ridiculous! Now, if I'm the only one who has this opinion, than I'm the weird one. But I'm glad to see more people who feel similarly.
Here's the bottom line (and I think I may have mentioned this earlier in the thread already):
Android is about choice and freedom. What I DON'T like about the iPhone is that you don't really get any choice. You are force fed the design that research shows fits the lowest common denominator, and if you don't like it go somewhere else.
Android is supposed to be about not having to compromise- find a handset that works for you the way you want and fits into your lifestyle. If you have to "get used to it", than its your lifestyle adapting to it instead of vice versa. You shouldn't have to do that. But the trend in Android flagship devices from almost ANY manufacturer is to keep on biggering (cue thneedville chorus). But is that what everyone needs? Or is that some silly macho race that Samsung HTC and LG have entered into (Moto and Sony have been a bit more reserved on the monster screens, but don't have as strong a presence).
I get that some people's priorities are for a large screen to watch movies. But other people don't share that- Dan, surely you can appreciate the pocketability of something like the Palm Pre. Sure, you might prefer now to have a big screen. But can't you at least admit that perhaps for some people it would be a con and not a pro?
