Economy Direct or Business with a Stopover
« on: October 25, 2010, 10:28:15 AM »
On a domestic ticket, e.g. LAX-NYC, if it would cost the same for economy direct or business with a stopover (say 1-1.5 hours) which would you take?

Depends on the airlines and planes in question.

So you'll fly on AA nonstop JFK-LAX in coach on a flight with a 30" pitch over flying on a CO flight on a 752 or 777 with lie-flat BF seats via CLE or IAH?

Of you'll fly on an airline like Olympic or Brussels to TLV that has business class as regular coach seating but with a guaranteed middle seat over a nonstop carrier in coach.

I stand by my original sentiments for this topic.

Which domestic flights generally have BF?
Does CO offer complimentary upgrades to elites even on these flights?

ok obviously every case is different, but in general i dont feel its worth the stop/time on a domestic flight for that added comfort.
versus international which is a long trip to start with, usually, assuming its a normal airline, i would prefer biz
to each their own....

There are domestic flights on 752s, 762s, 764s, and 772s with BF.
772 and 752s have a good shot at being lie-flat.
You can get comp upgrades on these flights.
For 12/06 just as a random date, here is a small sample of the BF flights on various domestic routes.
CO41, EWR-LAX, 752
CO1055, EWR-LAX, 752
CO52, IAH-LAX, 752

CO754, EWR-PBI, 752
CO438, EWR-MIA, 752
CO692, EWR-MCO, 752
CO37, EWR-MCO, 752
CO57, EWR-MCO, 752
CO1792, EWR-MCO, 752

over the yrs as a CO Plat I found those flights flying with the Intl cabins the hardest to get Upgraded on under the EUA system, seems they were filled with people connecting from or to an Intl flight and if they were on a Biz tkt to wherever they usually ended up getting that Biz seat on the domestic flight as well

I was able to score it a couple of times to Florida , but missed it more then I got it yes even to Florida, was never successful to/from IAH no matter the type of equipment

EWR-LAX is probably the 2nd or 3rd hardest upgrade in the CO system along with EWR-IAH and EWR-SFO.

EWR-CLE-LAX is a much much easier EUA.  ONT-IAH is also a very easy EUA.
