Ice Hockey Equipment
« on: February 12, 2014, 04:49:01 PM »
I'm looking to buy a full set of ice hockey equipment. I have entry-level experience and am looking to keep the budget under $400. I won't be changing sizes anytime soon so this will be a one-time purchase.

Anyone have experience or tips to share?

You can get really cheap stuff from the average used sports store. Even though its used most of the stuff at those stores are in great condition. I bought a pair of skates and carbon fiber hockey stick for 75 bucks.

Thanks for the reply but I REALLY REALLY don't wanna get used equipment  :o
I've heard horror stories about the blood stains and sweat marks. I even heard about a guy that found a tooth in the upper-body pads. A TOOTH!!

I'll pass on the used if I can.

retail stores are gonna be super expensive, between a good pair of skates with a carbon fiber stick ur looking at 250 thats withought any pads etc etc. from my expirence with used sports stores never had a issue.. try looking online mabye you can get a bundle deal or something.. craigslist would be a good idea, but that stuff is also used.

best of luck getting full hockey equipment, brand new fro under 400

I sit next to a bona fide hockey mom (3 sons, 1 daughter) at work and she said I can do it for under $300.
Just looking for as many opinions as I can get.

With regards to used, are my feelings towards it warranted?
Can I get quality, CLEAN stuff if its used? [realistically]

You don't have to get top of the line stuff.
You can definitely get a pair of skates for $60 online and can get a stick for $75

of course I can. I'm not leeching info to be lazy. I'm leaching info to be more knowledgable and make an educated purchase when the time comes. duh.  ;)

I'm reading that Reebok skates are not as good as CCM or Bauer. Any truth to this?
