Easy to pick up if you don't have a job, but for someone with a job to pick up and leave without any prospects is pretty hard.
Some jobs make it easy to move anywhere and have a job waiting.  ;)
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

You had a job in ny, and moved elsewhere without having one? Wow! You are a lot braver than i am. (Or just have a lot richer parents or in-laws ;))
No, I didn't have a job in NY and moved elsewhere. We moved for my wife's work. I subsequently found work

I don't see this has to be so far from the realm of possibility.
Probably would take chabad guys though as shabbos makes this a non-starter for most of you.  And chabad guys in general seem more willing to pick up and move.

From most comments in this thread it sounds like NY is one big city, has in it Brooklyn, queens, Manhattan.
Have ever heard about Upstate New York? Quiet calm towns, affordable housing, nice people, no traffic, no tickets, maybe they also pick up garbage on demand, AND it's close to NYC so you still have all the job opportunities.

Why would you want the commute?
Tons of jobs in Beachwood and most people have a 10 minute commute.

Why the need for NYC proximity? A 55 minute flight isn't enough?

I believe the main issue here was the weather, which is worse in upstate.

Hmm, I have on pizza shop, one chinese,  a couple of bagel places, a deli, and a couple of israeli places. No thurs night cholent. Latest you can get food anywhere is 10.
2 schools to choose from, but one is Coed. So one school to choose from.

And my rent is not even so much higher than it would be in Crown Heights.

At least my commute is shorter (I drive in about 20 mins).

I also live OOT.  We have a pizza/cafe,  Chinese take out, Argentinian Steak house, panini bar and a few shwarma places.  A few Frum daycares, 3 yeshiva day schools (1 coed, 1 separate and 1 Chabad Montessori), 1 boys yeshiva hs, 1 girls yeshiva hs and 1 coed HS.  I've lost 15 lbs since I moved out of NY.  My apartment is 2x the size, comes with 100x the amenities and NY commute was shaved from approx 1.5-2 hrs each way to approx 15 min.  I couldn't have been happier, although it took a lot to move out of NY. We are a short flight to chi, NYC and MIA.  I am actually midair from ORD as we speak...OOT may not be NY and may not have the frumkeit at your fingertips but def makes for a less crazy life.

I accepted your critique and decided to let the discussion play out.

At this point, though, it doesn't seem very serious to me. The last 20 minutes saw a few people debating whether or not women would feel comfortable working with men. I assumed that all (or most) of them were men so I asked myself why they were deciding what a woman would feel, seeing as they are not women. The only confirmed woman, "MC", said something to the effect that she'd prefer a Jewish environment but it's not a deal breaker.

I have no idea where you got the impression from that most are men. There's more than one women taking part in this discussion.

Why would you want the commute?

If I were to move to Monsey from BP, my commute into the city will stay pretty much the same. In fact, since there's shachris on the bus, is actually be able to wake up later ;)

No, just 99% of the time I comment, I'm 100% certain I'm correct.

You should follow such a rule.

I'll give you $100 if you can prove that most of the people involved in this convo are women.

Heck, I'll give you 100:1 odds on any amount of money up to $1,000.

Much more job opportunities in Manhattan than any other place in the US.
Again, compute that the cost of living in NYC is twice that of the midwest and you can find a lot more jobs elsewhere even with a paycut and still live better and more stress-free without traffic and parking nightmares.

Cost of living for a frum jew is double in Nyc?! I do not have any of the numbers handy, but i would have to strongly disagree with that statement. The only thing that may be cheaper is housing. That is all.

Just as a side note. I am from the lucky ones who live in nyc, who have a commute of under 15 minutes to work, and whose mortgage is actually less than what my rent was before i bought a house.

That's like commuters suicide...you're spending half the day on busses! I know people that do do it...only in NY!
