Have a hard time believing a mortgage for a decent 4BR place in BK is under $2K.
My impression was that you need for spend $700K+ to get anything decent and even then you still have those nasty NYC bathrooms that haven't been renovated in 100 years.

Am I wrong?

Yes, but you get much bigger cockroaches along with it.

Right, but I was comparing to BK as I said.  And I think a mortgage there will be more like $3K.
FR living means a pretty nasty commute to the city, no?

Wow, biggest firm is 74 attorneys. Little tykes.

No need to rub his nose in it and just for Mesh on VD.  :-* :-* :-*

Not sure what "just for Mesh on VD" means, but he's been asking for it.

A 600K mortgage at 3.5% will be 2,685.82
Yup

And I don't think $600K buys you much of anything in BP or CH. CMIIW.
I stand by the $1K CLE vs $3K BK/NYC monthly number.  Never mind the different in down payments requirements means that young couples can buy their own place in CLE and stop throwing away money on rent.

The term "OOT" is inherently ridiculous. Out of WHAT town?

It's hilarious that even in a thread where people are trying to get out of their box, they are still using that dumb term.

That's like commuters suicide...you're spending half the day on busses! I know people that do do it...only in NY!
ummm
If I were to move to Monsey from BP, my commute into the city will stay pretty much the same. In fact, since there's shachris on the bus, is actually be able to wake up later ;)

I wonder if this is how people were back in the old country? Or is this a new thing since the mass emigration to chatzi kador hatachton? Seems like in the old days there were many different centers of Jewish life. Coming to America put everyone through a giant funnel that was wide on one end and tiny on the other.

If spending 2 hours commuting on top of a workday is worth the cons then more power to em.
