OMG I never imagined this, but from his pics it's clear HNL is a city. Yuch.

Anyway,
Find me a Shliach who opened a school for just 10 families...
MCO has a pre-school/day care of sorts. If people moved to HNL for real, then a pre-school could one day become an elementary school and then...

Still has enough going for it. The weather and close to the rest of Hawaii...

Big difference between a preschool and elementary school.

Huh?
I must have posted a dozen times that you may as well go to MIA if you just stay in HNL.

Exactly.
Though if I was starting a community it would probably be on another island.

Nope.

Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Yes, I've seen that. I assumed that meant busy with tourists like MIA, but I didn't expect tall office buildings lining the streets.

One of our families will of course be a qualified teacher who will somehow teach all grades.

HA! I meant a qualified secular teacher. ;D I figured there are overallless qualifications for someone to be a good Jewish studies teacher that for sure among the group we could find someone to do that. Online studies for elementary school? I feel like we're still a good 10-15 years away from that being practical and actually up to par for kids.

OMG I never imagined this, but from his pics it's clear HNL is a city. Yuch.

Yes, it definitely is a city. And there are definitely parts of it, like any city, that do not look pretty. Although I love the apartment we found, and it's close to Chabad, when you walk out of the building, it's not the prettiest (others were on much nicer blocks, but the apts weren't good options). However, if I walk 15 minutes I can be in back of the Hawaiian Hilton Village or at the Magic Island Lagoon, looking back at the coastline of Waikiki, and it's gorgeous. If not for wanting to be walking distance to a shul, we' probably move to Kailua or somewhere and commute into HNL.

I just scheduled 3 weeks off from work, a week each in April, June, and July. Thinking Kauai, Maui, and Big Island (did the Big Island 3 years ago, have not been to the other 2 yet). Would also like to see Molokai/Lanai during this upcoming year.
