3 years ago my wife and I went to Hawaii (Big Island and Oahu) on our honeymoon and fell in love with it. In 4 years of marriage we have been fortunate to have visited France, Italy, Hawaii, Israel, Brazil, and New Zealand. Hawaii (and Israel - which is different) was the only one where my wife said "How do we move here?"... (Disclaimer: New Zealand is INCREDIBLE, but moving to the South Island of NZ did not seem realistic) Since then we always discussed that we would retire in Hawaii one day in the future (run a Kosher B&B in Kona?). In any case, around 1-1/2 years ago, an opportunity came up at work for me to transfer to the Honolulu office for 1 year (or longer). The timing wasn't right for many reasons and we told ourselves that we'd be back to Hawaii for vacation anyways. Over the last 1-1/2 years, I definitely kicked myself more than once for not taking up my employer on the offer.
Lo and behold, a few weeks ago, the opportunity came up once again, and we were not saying no twice! While the logistics are still being worked out, it appears we will be headed out there, with our 8 month old daughter, at some point next month. It still seems so far fetched...I don't know at what point it will feel real - probably not until we land there.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around so much...
