AA cancelled route booked with avios

I had a bunch of tickets booked with avios on aa metal from  lga-atl.  Because of the merger, aa dropped the route so I was automatically rebooked with a stopover in Chicago.  Is there any way to force them to put me on a direct flight with another airline? If so do I talk to aa or ba?  or should I just make other plans....?

Do you know if they are required to put me on another airlines direct flight?
