Amazon Prime Wannabe, worth it?
« on: October 28, 2010, 12:40:51 AM »
It seems like a bunch of online stores are teaming up to offer free 2-day shipping for $79/year. If enough stores join it might be worth it to share, like we share Amazon Prime. You can share this service with up to four people (it says household, but I doubt they enforce it). There's also free return shipping included, I'm pretty sure Amazon Prime doesn't offer that.

What do you guys think?

All "household" requires is a single address which is easy for them to enforce. Sounds like a good idea - which websites are in?

Amazon Prime does not offer free return shipping although amazon's customer service is excellent and that is why I buy stuff there.

The link shows the participating stores, and it looks like more e-tailers might join.

Bump of an old thread.

Shoprunner now has many more merchants (especially when you consider the "coming soon" ones), is it worth $79/year yet?

For me? No. I mean, after looking at the list, I've only ever shopped at like one of the stores online: newegg.com.

And, also, FWIW, I believe--at least for the stuff you can buy there--Amazon pricing is going to beat most of these stores anyway...

OT here, anyone know of a way to sort on amazon by price + shipping. The lack of this feature is the one reason that I shop mostly on ebay.

Yup. Amazon's price sorting is terrible.

I find it truly amazing that people would shop without being able to compare prices.

Doesn't the price that appears in the main screen always turn out to be the cheapest after shipping?

I don't think that's always the case.

Definitely not.
Many products are cheaper from third part vendors even after shipping, like ink and toner for example.

I'd take a free year too, but even at $20 it wouldn't be worth it for me.

The service itself is good (from what I hear, haven't used it myself), but the selection is severely limited (but growing).
