For approx a week worth to do both or just stick with one? (and which one?)
Was leaning towards Mauritius because of Chabad/kosher etc, however Saychelles is direct flight Vs to get to Mauritus would require saychelles plus another quick stop.

Better stick to one, do not go straight from US to there, as jet-lag will kill your holiday. Seychelles, definitely more exotic and nicer beaches. I stayed on an island La Digue, which is car free, (you can hire a bike). It's the most relaxing, and amazing secluded beaches. Check out the beaches such as Anse Cocos, Anse Marron, Anse Patates.

Landing in Seychelles in few hours.

Bringing in a suitcase of prepared meals from pomegranate, on landing card am I bringing any product from animal… is it better to declare or not?

They seem very strict in general… best to come clean? Any experience?

+1

In general (not related to Saychelles) I only had problems bringing in raw. I was stopped in many different countries and when they saw that it was cooked (I.E pom) I never had a problem.

They seemed very interested in food, just barely avoided the X-ray machines…  they asked if I had any food I said no, I have only food (two suitcases full - wife was coming on different flight with all else)… thankfully they thought I was joking….

Thinking of doing a day trip there from Praslin… is it worth it? We’re you on Praslin?

When I went to seychelles i also brought food from hermolis from london. I got a goverment health certificate from england that vouches for the food. hermolis offer this service for a 60 Pounds fee were you get a official document specifically to the country you are traveling to
When i landed in seychelles my suitcase had a big X on it, i guess they opened it already before the luggage belt. I went to the agent (that had a eye on me anyway) and said i have food for religious reasons, but have a official document from england. they checked the certificate, counted the amount of meals (says all deatils on certificate) and let me pass. I dont know what would have happened without

I declared my food. I had a polar bear cooler full of vaccum packed cooked food. They oppened the cooler, looked around and said if it is fully cooked there is no issue.

I saw a number of kosher shelf stable items like wafers, crackers and the like in grocery stores in the Seychelles with the Beis Din of South Africa hechsher.

The trick I've used in multiple countries is to have a small with very visible snacks - and custom officers always spot it and ask us if we have food - and we say 'yes we do - and we show this bag' BH always worked  ;D

I only did La Digue, was in Praslin only to switch ferries on the way to/from airport.

I’ve heard people got it through if it was cooked, so that was plan B.

But definitely more strict here then other places I’ve been to…

Currently at the Hilton Labriz… a few thoughts in case you’re considering…

1. No diamond upgrade (prob Bec full at the moment).. no diamond recognition on arrival either, had to ask for some coupon booklet..

2. Extremely slow internet (50kb/s) so get a sim if you need to do anything.

3. Actual beach is gorgeous and empty, in same category as Maldives (but wavy this time of year).

4. Surprised by some of the unkempt grounds… I guess it’s a Hilton and not a Waldorf, but still could do a better job on some of this.

5. Heating up my kosher food wasn’t easy. At first they didn’t want to Bec of Covid, but I pushed it through.. may have helped being diamond?! Dunno.

6. Def. take a helicopter over boat to get here… was one of the nicest things I’ve ever done… price is about 600 euro vs boat 140 per person not even a question.. they pick you up from airport for 5 minute ride to their station… and you land right in the hotel. If continuing to another island later (Praslin) might be worth taking helicopter again to avoid going through Mahe, but it’s very pricey (1200 Euro)

7. Heading to a different island to check out (Praslin) will update

8.  Not much to do in terms of activities. We came to relax! If you’re very active think twice about this resort. It’s the only resort (or for that matter exhistance) on this island… no motor sports that I noticed. Went to activity center said nothing today or tomorrow. For us that’s fine, for you might not be..

9. It’s an all villa hotel. Villas vary. Personally saw many small and crowded ones which would not have enjoyed at all. We wanted privacy and something a little bigger so we took the sanctuary pool villa (garden image below) Only one category higher is the beachfront deluxe pool villa, but we opted for this instead.

Attaching a few photos

Seychelles doesn't really have "budget" accomodations. I stayed in Tannette's Villa in La Digue, but they are booked out at the moment.
Search booking.com and airbnb.com - as you need to make your decision based on availability, price and the reviews.

Looks like a yellow flag, 'early stage' operation
