Has anyone ever been to Mauritius or Seychelles?
I doubt most people know which ocean they're in, let alone been there?
But you never know...
Plan on heading down there after the DDD?

I know this is an old thread, but was wondering if anyone has been to Seychelles.
My initial plan of Bora Bora may not work and this seems like a nice backup.

Never heard of Seychelles until I noticed FTG talking about it:
Quote
Mauritius hasn’t been explored by points/miles addicts like the Seychelles and Maldives, but the island (and particularly the Intercontinental resort) offers an equally peaceful experience for guests looking to get away from it all.
It's interesting that he refers to Sychelles as a place that points/miles addicts have explored, yet no one here talks about them. Same goes with Mauritius and Fiji and many other places. The only "exotic" places really talked about here are HI, BOB, and MLE. Why is that? Is it because those places are really hard to get to with miles?

It is far but it's beautiful!
If you are all the way over there, you can do both, but if you're only doing one, go to Seychelles IMO.

Neither SEZ not MRU have OWB, which I believe accounts for the majority of the reason they're not as oft-spoke about.

FTFY. You don't spend nearly enough time in the MLE thread.

I'm clueless and Google didn't help. Whatever it is, how much worse can it be than the nearly-impossible-to-find available on the ever-so-long trips to BOB and MLE?

What?? THAT'S the reason?? Experience it once in MLE or BOB and then still enjoy OTHER destinations. No??

How many people you know who have been to both MLE and BOB and now are "ready" to experience "other" destinations?  ::)

Not even 1. :)
But, why once you've experienced an OWB once, why not just get to an easier destination before the next "big" trip?

Easier? Who said its easier?

Both MRU and SEZ are harder to get to than MLE.

Mistake, IMO.

As an American, Hawaii will always be there. And it's also easier to schlep kids on an 11 hour non-stop flight (to HNL) then it is a 14 hour to a connection to a 4-6 hour flight (to MLE/MRU/SEZ).

Strike now while you have the chance.

I told the idea to my wife tonight about basically flying for a day straight. She kinda rolled her eyes and didn't think it would be worth it. That's kinda why I was curious about the other places (again, because I thought they were easier to get to). I hear your point about kids and HI, but I can't imagine going with kids is anything close to going alone. Nonetheless, if something more exotic was available and didn't require a 24 hour flight route, I would probably go for that instead, but after our conversation, I'm not sure such a place exists -- which is why Hawaii will likely be the most "exotic" place we get to.
