Verizon asking ID after shipping iPad

I signed online for an iPad plan, ran a credit check and bought the iPad outright. The iPad shipped the next day. Yesterday Verizon emailed me that my plan was cancelled. I called them up and they claim to have sent me an email (which they never sent) that I need to send in a utility bill (that i don't have) and photo id in order to have the plan reinstated. They said that if I don't send it in the iPad will be reported as stolen and won't be able to be activated on any US carrier. They didn't cancel the iPad delivery.
I need the IPad but don't need Verizon service. Is it true that they will put in on a block list? Will it in someway appear on my credit report?
