Chase called to offer me a bigger credit line? (Ink)
« on: March 05, 2014, 01:07:52 AM »
I got a call this afternoon from ‘Unknown’, calling about my Ink Bold card. I applied using the name of my actual company, complete with EIN, so it’s not a ‘Sole Proprietorship’ to their eyes.

At first I thought the worst and assumed it was AA, but the guy sounded bored, and asked me how things were going with the card (I’ve had it for less than two billing cycles so far). He wanted to know if I wanted to discuss increasing my credit line (they started me off relatively low, presumably because I had no prior relationship with Chase and the revenue numbers I supplied to them are low). I declined, and he reassured me that nothing was wrong, and they’re always there to talk.

I assume they called because my balance is near the limit, because I’m waiting for some transactions to fully post so I can pay them down before the statement closes, and the due-by date is very soon.

Anyone ever had this happen? Thoughts?

I got a very large bump up in the CL on my IB without them even calling to inform me

Yes, they did mention that over time they would gather more information internally or something like that, and then automatically increase the line. I’m fine with what they’ve given me so far, so I don’t really care, I just want to make sure I haven’t done anything to set off any red flags.

I'm wary of big chase CL's because when they a/a'd me they said it was because my cl's were too high for the income i stated which looks risky to them

+1
I started with $5k and they bumped it up to $17k without me ever asking.

Last week I got a call from them asking me if I am happy with my credit line ($20k).

1. Does it matter from a utilization-ratio-impacting-credit-score  perspective if you have a weird assortment of large and small CLs across several cards, and - if I'm not 100% perfect with paying down to $1 before the statement closes - correspondingly different card-specific utilization ratios? Or the credit score just looks at the total ratio?

2. Does requesting to increase a CL cause another pull?

1. FICO looks at both, 'total' CL vs. debt, and 'each card' CL vs. debt.

2. Usually.

Not necessarily on a charge card.

Does this [am wary] mean you have a current relationship with chase despite having been A/A'd?
Mind sharing details?

It happened to me too. Right after I got the card, I bought 5k in VR. The next day I got a call from the lending dept. asking if I wanted to raise the limit. Since it was already 7k and its a charge card, I told them to leave it.

Right, this is exactly what happened to me.

Wondering why my chase freedom credit card limit is still $500 and I signed up for it well over a year ago and chase British airways card I have for like 6 months they just upped the credit limit from $5,000 to $6,500 with out me even asking, so do I call to up my freedom?  Or should I wait bec I just applied and got accepted to 2 new credit cards so I don't want to ruin my credit if they just pulled my credit

I don't think asking chase to up your cl is a good idea, (especially since the hate Chase has towards credit increase seekers, has been revealed thru their A/A actions), 'shifting' credit from your British to freedom is a much better path

How am I supposed to "shift" credit over? And the main reason I want to up my credit on the freedom is for the bonus categories besides that I don't use it up bec I'm racking up points on other cards
