NEW GAME - MISSING LINK - A Creative Thinking Game of Associations

(NOTE: This thread is for THIS game ONLY.  All other games can be played here: http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=34043.0)

Rules:
1.  You need to figure out the ONE or TWO word Missing Link which connects two separate game words, word1--> Missing Link--> word2.

2.  The Missing Link must be somehow associated to word1 AND to word2.  (see examples below)

3.  Any member can guess the Missing Link by posting this:  link="Missing Link guess"?

4.  The Poster of the correct Missing Link gets to post the new word2 in the following format:
  • word1= "old word2"
  • word2= "OP's new word"
5.  The Poster of word2 is encouraged to give hints if members have difficulty finding the Missing Link (until it is so easy that a member gets it).

6.  In case the current OP of the riddle is offline or not responding, any logical Missing Link guess that is posted and then seconded
by another member is good enough to win that riddle.  The OP member who thought of the link can CMIIW.  This way we don't have to wait.

7.  3MR=The 3 Minute Rule:  The member correctly guessing the Missing Link has 3 minutes to post word2, otherwise any member may post it in order to keep the game flowing.

This is not just a free flow association game, but rather, each pair of words is its own new, challenging riddle to be solved before continuing.

Example:   If Riddle#1 were "Sunday-->Superbowl-->cereal"   then   Riddle#2 could be "cereal-->spoon-->fork"
In Riddle#1, if a member correctly guesses the Missing Link for word2 of "cereal", then "cereal" now becomes new word1 in Riddle#2.
The member then thinks of a Missing Link to a new word2 and posts the new word2.   (The guessed link DOES NOT become word2.)

Possibilities:
Word1Word2LinkLevel
cereal,fork-you eat cereal with a spoon, which is a utensil just like a fork (easy)
cereal,cow-you eat cereal with milk, which comes from a cow (easy)
cereal,soup-you eat cereal in a bowl, as you do soup (easy)
cereal,lane-you eat cereal in a bowl, and you bowl down a lane (moderate)
cereal,hear-cereal starts with "see", which is one of the 5 senses, as is hear (moderate)
cereal,bounce-cereal ends with "roll", which is an action like bounce (moderate)
cereal,trout-cereal sounds like "sole", which is a fish, like trout (hard)
cereal,celery-cereal is crunchy, just like celery (hard)

Ready?  I propose we start off with easy/moderate until members feel comfortable joining.

NOTE: Players agree to ignore any posts that do not comply with the rules, and instead, to refer those posters to the wiki.

Thoughts (for me and others to work off of):  main, primary, biggest, top, largest...
Nothing seems to connect for me with 'ethics'

Work with those.

Homonyms are spelled the same (ie row and row) homophones aren't (ie gate and gait)
That is what I always thought, as well, but @wayfe is correct according to wikipedia!! (slight discrepency in it though)

I removed the post because I'm finding a bit of a contradiction between Wikipedia and Dictionary.com

So to be correct in the most technical form- the words are heterographs (2 words with the same pronunciation but different spelling)

Not exactly. See, I would never use chief to mean principal as it is not precise enough (I might not be the best person to be playing this game...) I meant chief/principal as an adjective meaning main or most important.

There you go!

principle/principal
I like..but that's using chief as a noun.
That is true, but even better that way than using chief as an adjective before the noun.
Adjective would only be link=principle  ETA: adjective only spelled princiPAL
Noun would be link=principle (/principal)  Nicer!
ETA:  Don't listen to me anymore.  As good of a speller I am, I goofed!

Great play on words!  Not true!

Noun: Principle is always spelled principle
Except when it's your pal (ie, a person) then it is principal, like of a school!
Adjective: is always spelled principal

I'm not sure what you're saying. The link could never be just principle as it is only linked to the word chief by it's heterograph principal.

Principle is always spelled principle, both adjective and noun.
When it's your pal (ie, a person, then it is principal, like of a school!

I don't believe principle is an adjective.

I don't believe principle is an adjective.
It's not and it never is. Principal, on the other hand, not only means the head of the school but can also mean 'main' or 'primary' which I'm assuming is what you connected to chief...
It makes sense to me and it was a good one!
Not sure what all the confusion is about
