NEW GAME - MISSING LINK - A Creative Thinking Game of Associations

(NOTE: This thread is for THIS game ONLY.  All other games can be played here: http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=34043.0)

Rules:
1.  You need to figure out the ONE or TWO word Missing Link which connects two separate game words, word1--> Missing Link--> word2.

2.  The Missing Link must be somehow associated to word1 AND to word2.  (see examples below)

3.  Any member can guess the Missing Link by posting this:  link="Missing Link guess"?

4.  The Poster of the correct Missing Link gets to post the new word2 in the following format:
  • word1= "old word2"
  • word2= "OP's new word"
5.  The Poster of word2 is encouraged to give hints if members have difficulty finding the Missing Link (until it is so easy that a member gets it).

6.  In case the current OP of the riddle is offline or not responding, any logical Missing Link guess that is posted and then seconded
by another member is good enough to win that riddle.  The OP member who thought of the link can CMIIW.  This way we don't have to wait.

7.  3MR=The 3 Minute Rule:  The member correctly guessing the Missing Link has 3 minutes to post word2, otherwise any member may post it in order to keep the game flowing.

This is not just a free flow association game, but rather, each pair of words is its own new, challenging riddle to be solved before continuing.

Example:   If Riddle#1 were "Sunday-->Superbowl-->cereal"   then   Riddle#2 could be "cereal-->spoon-->fork"
In Riddle#1, if a member correctly guesses the Missing Link for word2 of "cereal", then "cereal" now becomes new word1 in Riddle#2.
The member then thinks of a Missing Link to a new word2 and posts the new word2.   (The guessed link DOES NOT become word2.)

Possibilities:
Word1Word2LinkLevel
cereal,fork-you eat cereal with a spoon, which is a utensil just like a fork (easy)
cereal,cow-you eat cereal with milk, which comes from a cow (easy)
cereal,soup-you eat cereal in a bowl, as you do soup (easy)
cereal,lane-you eat cereal in a bowl, and you bowl down a lane (moderate)
cereal,hear-cereal starts with "see", which is one of the 5 senses, as is hear (moderate)
cereal,bounce-cereal ends with "roll", which is an action like bounce (moderate)
cereal,trout-cereal sounds like "sole", which is a fish, like trout (hard)
cereal,celery-cereal is crunchy, just like celery (hard)

Ready?  I propose we start off with easy/moderate until members feel comfortable joining.

NOTE: Players agree to ignore any posts that do not comply with the rules, and instead, to refer those posters to the wiki.

Alright I'll practically give it away. Corn is not necessarily a vegetable

I had tried corn as on a foot.  Is that your meaning? The giveaway still didn't help me.
We have at least five willing guessers here stumped on a really good link.

BTW, my homophone riddle and shulem91's is the level where we used to be and WILL be once we start this game rolling again.
Meanwhile, yes, let's keep it simple to get all players involved and hone our brain skills.

Agreed. Also I think if it's the type that's spelled the same, that would be easier (and no need to worry about accents :) )
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

'ice' would work as a link, but it doesn't start with a 'c' nor is it a homonym spelled differently.

1: corn
2: hard
Alright. Time for another hint. Hard as in synonymous with mean

Homophone. Yes the whole homonym/graph/phone can be a little confusing. And yes they both start with a C
Alright I'll practically give it away. Corn is not necessarily a vegetable

Thoughts:
corn -  as in the thickening of skin on a foot, or in another word that starts with corn (but my dictionary doesn't have one starting with 'c' that does not refer to the corn vegetable)

Credit goes to srap for that one. I kinda dipped out of this last one until I saw his "thoughts" but my only question is, why didn't he think of it when he mentioned corns as in feet?

Well it doesn't necessarily need to be two different spellings or meanings for that matter, as calluses are hard...

Hence this. After I posted I realized that the synonym I used for callous was able to be an answer in its own right :)
It can technically work without taking advantage of the homonym, but it makes it better with it

EXCELLENT! This was a perfect link, but we as players need to improve our skills a bit.
That is exactly what is the purpose of THOUGHTS, to use a team effort to come closer to solving each riddle.

as2 you're up.
word1 = hard
word2 =   ?              Maybe we can have the next few be super easy ones....
