In Lakewood it is easy enough to find a new place.  IMO, for the sake of shalom, deal with it, and not renew.  If you have already spoken with him, and nothing changed, it probably won't, no matter what.  The din may be with you, but IMO it is not worth it to pursue.
CMIIW, but I think it's very hard to find basement apartments now in Lakewood. There's nothing in the Masa U'Matan. I have friends who are still living in temporary apartments months after their chasuna since they can't find anything else.

Sorry, if I am wrong.  I just assumed.  I think it may depend on how picky you are with location.  With all of the building going on south of the lake, there should be ample rentals.  But, I am b'H not in that parsha.

It sounds like he doesn't want a basement.

Lakewood easy to find a place???
There is a huge apartment shortage....

As far as noise goes, even in the newer upgrades houses where they do high quality insulation, sound board and double sheetrock you still hear walking and chairs moving upstairs.
In your case I would assume they didn't do that much soundproofing, that's probably why you hear so much. Regular house work sounds like a tornado.... and of course there are quieter families

I'll take your word for it; I own.  But I always see new houses (with basements) being built...

That's the thing that they are not and that is why my q. Is is there anything for us to do like that we won't hear them?
I'm starting to feel like a old man complaining every second the problem is that I don't have what to do
I am in a basement where even though they have 7 boys the noise level is usually ok except for a couple of times throughout the day. I spoke to my landlord about it a few times and thanked him for his effort in keeping the noise level down, my repayment, an indoor basketball hoop on top of my bedroom. >:(

Yeah it's definitely hard to find things now. You should try a sound machine it'll work better than you think. Otherwise not much else you can do, though like it was previously mentioned it sounds louder to you than he realizes, you might wanna try showing him how much you hear, for example if you hear anything clearly you can show him just how bad it is by quoting exactly what you hear. If he's willing toput money into it there are somethings that might work (though I doubt he'll be interested)

1 listing being Westgate, and the other Washington Square. 2 places where most don't want to live. And these reasons I would not classify as being picky ;D

See if Home Depot or someone has any soundpoofing material that can be tacked to your ceiling. If it's a reasonable price, try it in the bedrooom.

My tenant mentioned that my leather soled Shabbos shoes bother them. I started switching to crocks by the front door. I feel like a tzadik....

This is with double sheetrock and greenglue.

When I lived in a basement, the light fixture above the dining room table used to jump up and down when the girls upstairs jumped rope during the meal. Terrifying stuff...

yea that is a point I wanted to bring up I was thinking about this last night.
It is very possible that without realizing maybe someone reading this post is my landlord who thinks that he is really carefully ( which on Shabbos he really is and that is very nice of him but somehow at night everything changes).
So please let's make a thing even of its for sure not me just some other person under you if you have someone under you please try making a extra effort to be a bit more quiet especially right on top of him or in the next room and especially at night when u never know if they may be going to sleep early that night.
And if I managed to get 10 ppl to suffer less at least that.
Keep in mind that its for your good also since they COULD hear anything you say in a tone even a drop louder than usual

So what are people supposed to do? Can't walk barefoot in their house?
All of this is part of the reason that I bought a house with no basement. I enjoy being able to live in my house and my kids can jump and play without bothering anyone. I can scrape chairs when I want to etc.
