Yeah I know its a negative start, but every time I pick up a "jewish" book it feels like some one took a cheesy dime novel and kashered it ?
I got to thinking, we have our jewish artists galore, we are BOMBARDED with jewish music (some just kashered from the non jewish world)
But we are the people of the book, I dont see any real jewish output, save for marcus lehman but that was 100+ years ago. The truth is that much of my favorite books tend to be "kosher'sh" like take John Steinbeck, I feel like I gain something from his books. Leon uris.. It's a issue because many kids are limited by their parents / school to just jewish books, they read and may not be content thus sending them elsewhere to read trash.
Movies wise, Documentaries would be amazing.. also after watching despicable me 1 (i was a few years late) I find out that most frum people I know watched it.. but a kosher pixar could be amazing and there is nothing stopping it from being a commercial success mainstream.
Im not looking to criticize, I also may woefully be out of touch with jewish books and movies, I gave up on them 15 years ago
