Never had a problem. There was a seller who starting limiting buyers for about a month when a buying scheme was found out, a bunch of buyers were banned, but its back to normal now.
Why would the seller care??

They dont like resellers first of all. + they want to hook long term customers with a deal. Youll either shop around and buy other things were they maximize profits or have a good feeling from them and buy from that seller in the future. Theyre not looking for buyers with razor sharp focus on the deal and the deal alone.

I just bought a smartphone manufacturer refurbished, it seems to be defective (poor or no service, and I'm using my same sim).

I want to return it. Do I go to the seller, or to paypal? I don't want to have to pay return shipping or anything as it is defective.
Thanks!

To the best of my recollection you would just initiate a return on Ebay and they make you speak to the seller. If you cant reach an agreement with the seller you escalate the case and Ebay will step in. You should be fine though. Meaning theyll take your side because you claim that the item is defective.

Also since your claim is that the item doesnt match the listing I believe the seller would have to pay for a return label, and if he/she refuses then when you escalate the case Ebay would send you a prepaid label to return it and deal with the seller themselves.

I havent done a return in a long while so the exact process is a bit hazy but this should be the jist of it

Yes
And if you want to be kind, do it in an email and don't open a case. If they are not helpful, by all means, open a case. But if they are, just opening a case can affect their account.

I do not think the eBay deals are loss leader by the sellers, They are funded by eBay.

Why eBay allows more than 1-2 surprises me.

I have a conspiracy theory that Amazon pays eBay for the daily deals, as all the items sold on the daily deal end up being resold on Amazon.  ;D

Is there serious money to be made by reselling eBay daily deals?

Most deals have a resale profit, but you will need holding power if you want to make a decent profit. Most deals end up reselling on Amazon by sellers that have ants in their pants, and lower their price till they make just a few bucks on the sale.

True but depends how much they're losing out on. If it's half the profit but it sells double as quick, and you also minimize the risk that the product will be refreshed in the near future, it ain't too dumb.

Very true. I see that a lot.

But in this specific case with eBay daily deals, where I know the markup and profit, and I see the small sellers selling for very low, it brings the whole market price down.

That is why I would advise anyone that although the eBay deals often have a nice profitable market, not necessarily will that be the case once you receive them.

Lol. And true not a loss leader for the seller, but Target,Walmart big box stores etc. is and Ebay definitely wont like it right? Unless your conspiracy theory is true.

Thats only a real fear when the new generation is coming out, generally people are just too impatient and ruin it for everyone else.

Is it bad for a brand new ebay and paypal account to have the first purchase at $1800 or is it better to start of smaller at a couple of hundred?

If it is better to start small would it be an issue to have multiple small orders on the same day?
I only paid 15% by switching to dansdeals

mmm...nah as long as you have a verified Paypal (bank account linked) and legit information, even if they close your account on suspicion you just call them up and confirm your identity and theyll reinstate you.
