What was the value of the item?

I'm surprised eBay took the hit on your first case.

Internationally First Class Mail tracking is very inaccurate. Priority and Express are not too great either, often the item is delivered, and tracking won't show delivered.

The only option for tracking with USPS is registered mail.

Basically there won't be any tracking from when the item leaves USA, till it arrives in the delivering country.

I have seen Express Mail take 30 days, and Priority Mail over 45 days.

My advise in your situation is - to tell the buyer that its only 17 days, and to allow 30 days to receive the item.

Never give a refund before 30 days

Additionally, if you don't want to pay for insurance for domestic, I can understand.

BUT ALWAYS TAKE ON INTERNATIONAL PRODUCTS.

IME I would estimate 10% of shipments gets lost.

Really depends on what shipping service you are using.

I assume you are talking about USPS. I only use Express, as its only a few $ more than Priority, and much more reliable

Its been a while since I shipped Priority Mail internationally, I stopped cuz - too many loss / damage, and insurance on Priority is much more expensive than Express, so basically after insurance, comes out almost the same price.

i had sold something internationally on eBay, it was actually going to israel,
after about a month- month and half, the guy was like where is my package, I said "i don't know check with your post office, it was sent and it should be there"
turns out almost 3 months later the package came back to me still sealed, with a note on it(in hebrew) "nobody picked it up, so they sent it back"
check the items, items where fine, resold the items,
refunded the guy the $$$,-minus shipping
told him to have a good day and that was it

I would tell him to wait, just explain it takes longer to get overseas., meanwhile contact your shipping supplier and se if they can come up with anything

for the first 1-1.5 month, not a peep, didn't hear form him, nor do i check with customers, to see if they got the item
then he started e-mailing me and I kept on telling him check the post office, I send stuff there all the time to family and it always sits there,
then no word, maybe one or 2 more e-mails
then finally it came back, i think he just didn't want the items he bought, wasn't that much it was probably about $75.00(plus shipping) worth of stuff[quote author=real-brisker

I sell alot on eBay and I would never sell international. They could always claim they never got it since there is no Tracking on First Class.

There is tracking, on FC Mail, but not accurate.

Why choose not to sell internationally, choose not to use FC Mail.

I ship daily internationally. In the long run its very worth it... If you are selling a single item, not worth the risk.

Ship internationally via an express carrier, that has proper tracking and confrontation.

it wasnt refused. it was an empty package. my point just is why should the seller take the hit if someone from usps stole it and i can just get my money from amex. (policy was no returns)

Why should the Amex be hit? If the seller has proof that he sent it with USPS (& receipts usually includes the wait of the package) then he can give you back your money, and file a claim with USPS.
My office buzzes to the JewishMusicStream!!!

If its not insured the seller won't be able to claim anything more than the cost of shipping

Hey, maybe the pros here can help me out -
What are the benefits to have an ebay store? I looked around ebay but didn't find too much info.

Also, how much would I need to be selling a month in order to make to make it worth it (fees wise) to be a store?

Cheapest store is $15.95 monthly

BIN listings drop from $.50 to $.20 each
Final value is also cheaper

Discounted final value fee is a big pro, + cheaper insertion fees.

Selling a $700 item alone, its worth the $16 to have a store.

Depends if you are selling items worth over $50 or not... On under $50 there isnt as much savings with a store
