Should I be nervous that a user who bought the iphone I was selling signed up on the same day? To me that seems very sketchy, even the user name was clearly generated it's just a bunch of gibberish
Whatever you do ship it registered mail, not priority or Any other way. Registered requires delivery and signature to the addressee only.

Had the same thing for a Bose headphones, I called PayPal and they told me that because the address is verified with them so I should add an insurance and a singature request and I should be fine.
3 days after the item was delivered the guy did a claim, but I won it without doing anything ...

I just cancelled it and relisted, not worth the headache. The randomly generated username was a big red flag in my book.
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Another buyer bought it and is asking me for the IMEI # to confirm the unlock status, should I give it to him?

What can someone do with an IMEI # that can hurt you?  Sign up the phone for service? :D
Can he cause it to be blacklisted in any way?

I just cancelled it and relisted, not worth the headache. The randomly generated username was a big red flag in my book.
I've had a buyer with a randomly generated username (it was a bunch of letters then a dash and more random letters) with no feedback also. I checked the shipping address on Google streetview and it was a commercial building that had a for rent sign outside.

I contacted the buyer and asked them why they're shipping it there. They said they work there and ship stuff there to avoid porch thieves.

It was a cheap item so I shipped it and bh didn't have any problems.

I've seen such type of usernames I think two or three times. Im not sure where they get generated. Maybe it has to do with guest checkout.

+1
Guest checkout randomly generates usernames, and by definition, it will have been opened that day.

Can still be a red flag, of course, but not necessarily.

No, but he can use it to claim he has the phone on ebay or other site.

I’m sure this has been posted previously, but I encountered a scammer on eBay and wanted to share the experience here so others can learn about it.  Fortunately, I didn’t send the guy the PayPal money request that he asked for.    Here is the link that describes the scam.

eBay started automatically charging tax for buyers even if the seller didn't charge it.

New Jersey (which my account is registered under) just started on may 1st.

AL, PA and OK will begin July 1, 2019

Washington Minnesota Iowa and Connecticut already started.

As the final part of the affected changes to the Mailing Standards of the USPS earlier this year, the United States Postal Service will implement Dimensional Weight (DIM) weight pricing as of June 23, 2019.

This change in calculating shipping for larger packages makes it crucial for sellers to optimize packaging if they ship medium to large packages that contain potentially lighter items. If you can reasonably fit items into a smaller package, you’ll absolutely want to explore your options.

Which Services are Affected?

All zones for Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express and Parcel Select.

What does this mean for you?

Dimensional Weight pricing applies to light weight, large packages. The general idea behind it is that there is a cost to the space these packages take up on a truck, rather than the physical weight of the package. If the calculated Dimensional Weight of your package is higher than the physical weight of a package, you are required to pay the higher of the two.

How is DIM weight calculated?

The new divisor for USPS is 166 which means if the total of the below equation equals a higher weight than the actual weight of the package you are shipping, you must pay the Dimensional Weight instead. Learn more

(L” x W” x H”)/166 = Dimensional weight

How do I manage cost?

Pack efficiently and smarter. Shipping a single small item in a large box is inefficient and will cost more than packing it in a container closer to the size of the item.

Use eBay Labels when possible for discounts on postage and renegotiate carrier contracts.

As always, thank you for selling on eBay.

Not sure if this is valid on the forum but ebay is charges taxes now - since we're in east coast -- the closest no sales tax state is DE.  Does anyone here use like a forward mailing service that help you save the tax?
