Personally I wait a while before leaving feedback as that it the best leverage I've got if there is a problem.

I bought something on eBay described as follows:

Quote
I purchase store displays, overstocks and last season’s items. All packages/tags will be marked in some manner to prevent a store return - Usually with a black marker through the bar code.  The Outside Packaging has been Removed for Shipping.

When I got the item, the box has a green sticker (tht someone tried to peel/scratch off) that says "SALVAGE". What does that mean?

While you establish a successful sales history on eBay, in most cases, funds from eBay sales are available in 21 days - or sooner, based on how you ship the order. To help get your funds faster, print your shipping labels on eBay or PayPal, upload your tracking information, or mark the items as shipped on eBay. If your buyer reports a problem, it may take longer to get your funds.

That's a new one.

What a pain.

I happen to understand why this make sense, as I bought a few items from a few new sellers and 2 of them were a scam, one shipped ma an empty box, the other shipped me a fake item. As long as their funds are held it makes the dispute process much easier.

I think they do it sometimes to certain accounts for whatever reason. They do take it off. One time I had it on one of my accounts for about 3 weeks.

I've had this in the past.

If the package has a tracking number, they will release the funds 3 days after the buyer received the item.

Avoiding eBay fees?
« Reply #108 on: October 17, 2012, 08:03:34 PM »
I have something on sale on eBay, and was asked buy a buyer for a better price if he pays me directly using Paypal, instead of buying through eBay. I wanted to know if this is against eBay rules? Will they catch me if my messages indicate our intention? Thanks!
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

I'm pretty sure it is against the rules, but you're bigger problem is I believe you lose seller protections by doing this.

Some of the other heavy ebay sellers can chime in.

Obviously don't ship until the funds clear, but even if they do, if the address isn't a confirmed address then the transaction might not be eligible for protection, and you won't be covered in case of a dispute.

Its interesting, but with a payment that was done thru eBay, it will always come up as eligible for seller protection.

Its officially against eBay policy to ask a buyer to do the transaction off eBay. Often eBay removes email address from the messages (its weird, that only sometimes they detect it)

it is against eBay policy. They can ban you, give you a strike (warning...) the savings you have is pasted mostly onto the buyer, not to the seller. Ex. If you are selling an item for $100, and a buyer asks you to do it off eBay for $90, its not worthwhile, as the $10 savings is your fees. Either way you would be walking out with $90!
The only thing you get out oof it is the loss of seller protection. (as stated earlier)

If we were talking about a constant buyer that would want 5 iPhones a week, and is asking for a $25 discount each- it would be a differnt question.

Many sellers get acquainted with a buyer through a regular ebay sale, and once they realize that he's a steady/trustworthy buyer they move off of ebay.

DO NOT SHIP till the funds clear.

You will have just eBay and Paypal fees. + the cost of shipping the item (obviously)

Ebay has a new thing that they dont release the funds until you have shipped it, and the tracking # that you provided shows delivered.

Go to Paypal.com and look at the transaction, it will say if its "OK to Ship" or not
