I once mistakenly left my phone on during a JFK-HKG flight and about 6 hours in all of my emails and texts came through. Somewhere between Canada and Alaska

What's between Canada and Alaska?

here is a thought.. If the plane flew for 4 hours after it lost contact then why would someone crash it in the ocean? He/she could have done it immediately.. My guess it landed or crash landed the furthest possible small island destination as far as the fuel allowed.

Have a hard time believing you can actually text 15 minutes before landing.  I mean you can text but it won't go out ;)
A few minutes before landing, maybe 5, would be tops.

I won't say what I do to arrange pickup time as I don't want the FAA fining me :D
Shine a green laser at the terminal? :D

+1 was flying in a Cessna once in FL and we heard a call that someone was getting blinded by a green laser.. cops were on in no time trying to get a description of the neighborhood it came from.

Shining laser at a terminal has no jail time. It's pointing at the cockpit that does.

Why don't you go try it and let me know how it works out for you.

I THINK they'll give you one DDF post instead of your one phone call.

I wonder which would prove more useful in the long term?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Maybe they didn't want any wreckage found.

Some psycho suicide.

Can't wait for the Air Crash Investigation on the flight.
But this comes to mind http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helios_Airways_Flight_522

Thanks for sharing. With this perspective in mind we can now understand why may have happened. Still wondering why the transponder was turned off though.
