This el al deal is about the same value as continental because 17000 amex points are about equal to the 250 difference in fees, but the elal deal is not really worth it this time of year when the same flight can be bought for around $1000 dollars. better off transferring the miles to co or ana for use during reg or high season.

 for now CO has 2 flights daily from EWR to TLV with talk now with the UA merge that most likley at least a 3rd flight should open from where is the unknown as is when wil it begin

 CO departs at 4pm and 10:50pm the 10:50pm flight #90 is marketed as a LA-TLV flight  (same flight # all the way from LA to TLV) but you can aways grab an early morn flight out of LA that will let U connect to the 85 @ 4pm

ANA availability and CO availability are one and the same.
IMO Star alliance availability (CO/ANA) is always going to be better then ELAL around the Yomim Tovim.
