I hear. I would understand that reaction if someone had a close family or friend on the plane. But I thought the overall story and the way Dan ended with a heartfelt blessing and prayer to the victims and family did not deserve such a response.

Agreed. As well the ones who feel the need to post that it was mere coincidence. A defense-mechanism, no doubt.

Reminds me of a story that happened to a guy in yeshiva. He was in a cab, and the (non-religious) cab driver told him a story. He was in the army, and his unit was staked out in the forest. One of the guys broke off from the group and shortly afterwards they heard him give a yell. They ran over to him and there was a snake coiling around his body. One of the guys in the unit told him to say shema, and when he finished the snake dropped off and went away.

"Amazing story, no?"
"Yes, so why aren't you frum?"
"Rabbi I think you misunderstood. The snake was around my friend, not around me"

This story presents a big problem to his heresy.
Goes into defensive mode and tries to get the story out of his head.

It's just sad. The worst is that I suspect a comment like that is from a troll. Someone that would take a story like that in a situation where people lost their lives and turn it upside down for enjoyment is really sick. I hope I'm wrong and it's just a misguided soul.

Does it seem odd to anyone that when something good happens we seem to know why? Then when something bad happens all of a sudden it is beyond our comprehension?

If we believe G-D is good then what we see as good makes sense to us that it comes from him but the things we can't see the good in we have to accept on belief that it's also good even though we can't comprehend it.

It is not beyond our comprehension when something bad happens as to Who orchestrated it. It is beyond our comprehension as to why.

Similarly when something good happens we understand Who orchestrated it. It is still beyond our comprehension as to why, although when something good happens we like to believe it is for this reason or that, but we will truly never know till after 120.

I think everyone is missing the count's point here. Just as we always know why something good happens i.e. we concoct reasons why this good thing happened, so should be done on bad too.
Personally that was the way I was brought up that we always try to see how bad things are really goodies in disguise.... problem is then everything is good and what's bad?

I got the impression that the count was trying to say that if we don't know why bad things happen why do we try to claim to know why good things happen?
If it's all G-d's master plan then we must accept that we don't understand any of it. Good or bad.
