Why do they have to watch the new ones? And FTR I found nothing wrong with Frozen, on the contrary the main concept is better than the usual "Happily ever after" Disney movies

I loved Brave. It's based on the Ehud ben gera story, except that the mother turns into a bear instead of Ehud killing the king. But the king is fat just like in the story.

Agreed. Some are better some are worse.

I recently rewatched Shrek though and was shocked at the amount of innuendos...

That's a lot of money. I hope he makes it back.

I've heard tell that Shaar Press was invented to publish Berel Wein's Triumph of Survival so that in case it was banned, it wouldn't drag Artscroll down with it. Frum publishing is a risky business.
artscroll is selling this on their site. I'm fairly confident that they are major stakeholders.

It's weird. He's busy showing us how the tiles are based on a medrash, when the whole story is made up.
Exactly what I was referring to

IINM Shrek was geared more to adults than to children. It's the Megillas Lester of the fairy tales ;D

I think the main issue here is that children, at such an impressionable young age, find it much more difficult than adults to distinguish between fantasy and reality.
Yes, it is a worthwhile and praiseworthy effort to try to provide Jewish kids with good, clean entertainment (G-d knows how bad the Disney and Pixar movies have gotten lately). However, if it means that our children come away with a misconstrued idea of how the Purim story happened, or even worse, come away thinking that the Purim story is just as much a fiction as a Disney story, then that's a huge problem.

When will people realize that banning everything is not a solution? we need constructive outlets in the 21st century, this isnt the shtetel!

The avg rebbe or morah in yeshiva etc does way worse job of confusing kids with misguided meshalim, sipurey habesht that may or may not be true, hashkafah delivered wrong, lack of attention to individual levels of belief in god etc etc etc.

I suppose you're right that changing the story does have its cons, but I would assume that most kids know the REAL story and putting THAT on video is less engaging.

Or maybe kids think that the story of purim is about fireworks, costumes and getting drunk

I actually thought the same, I didnt even watch it but stumbled upon people watching the point where they try to get pinochoi to lie by saying he is wearing women's underwear.. I dont think the avg kid under 15 needs to hear that type of humor.

On the other hand, ive seen kids 10-12 watch southark...

I think you guys should get a life. it's OK for your kids to watch Sesame Street or Jake and the Pirates, but not a fictional Jewish Story

there's my outlet

When will you realize that not every one is yeshivishe / Chasidishe? but, I do have many friends that are former yeshivish / chasidish etc... try getting out a bit.. if you travel around you'd have a broader prespective

If there's no Sefer saying it's Assur then it's not a big deal [sarcasm].
