No need to shorten davening. Just cut out the dead space so people don't get restless and have a nice kiddush afterwards to shmooze.

Like MLB did?! Yeah...

And rabbi's who talk for 30 min?!?

It's very hard, the average person can't go 10-15 min without their phone. Shacharis Shabbat is 3 hours

I agree it could be 2 hours

No that is not what he is saying

Many don't. I daven in a shul that is shorter...

I go without my phone every Shabbos. People can too.

This is why I go to Shul. To pray to G-d.

And many people can too.

Ok. End post.

We daven in 2 hours. Speech is limited to 5-10 minutes.

Are you serious? You think that's how they started?

https://web.archive.org/web/20080213195759/http://www.ou.org/other/5765/kiddushclubsrw65.htm

https://jewishchronicle.timesofisrael.com/kiddush-clubs-are-becoming-a-destructive-force/
I'm not very familiar with kiddush clubs, nevermind their origin and backstory. I was in a shul where the Rabbi encouraged anyone who felt the need to take a break/talk to go out and make kiddush, as part of his push to stop talking in shul.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

We daven in 2 hours. Speech is limited to 5-10 minutes.

If this was more standard in shuls, it would eliminate some of the issues. My shul's kiddush club used to start by the rabbi's (20-30 min) speech, but got moved up to after gelilah (except shabbos mevarchim) once people started schlepping through haftorah. Talking happens throughout davening, but by about 10% of people. It starts to get out of hand during kriah, usually spurred by 5 minute misheberach breaks between aliyos.

There's a minyan in our shul that davens daily from Modeh Ani until 8:30 sharp.
Jews ≠ Zionists
Palestinians ≠ Hamas
Satmar ≠ SatmarHQ

Make it the standard. No lengthy misheberachs, time limited speeches (sell it to the Rabbi as always being effective), haftorah read by people that can read with shlepping, and you solve nearly the talking and KC problems.

It's a game changer.

No, it will probably reduce talking and kc but you won't eliminate it.

Theres a shul i go to sometimes that has no mishebarachs and no standing allowed by leining ive never seen anyone talking.
The easy solution is no shlepping by davening. And a rov ppl respect that actually calls ppl out for shmoozing (wich is what ur supposed to do)

I don't really blame people, tefillah is very long and we live in an ADD society of connectivity.

I actually think that people should go outside to talk.

We can shorten davening,

Or, why not simply split it up? Like on simchas Torah. After kriah, make a kiddush.. have your break.. go back for yekum purkan

If I remember correctly ger does that.

Eliminate, no.
Greatly reduce, sure.

Make davening great again!

In SF I found this

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3319022

If you really see the great shuls and how they've been destroyed.. the remains of the shuls in Krakow are very awe inspiring.

I know it's a movie, but Ralph fiennes as Amon goeth yimach shmo... His speech about destroying kehila kadosha of Krakow, the Bach, rema, megale amukos, chasam sofer.

Honestly, I see the past communities and feel that we just treat the shul like the JCC.

All the famous shuls in Krakow remained intact (for example the one in my avatar). Also, the Chasam Sofer wasn't part of the Krakow lineup, unless you're referring to his son Reb Shimon Sofer.

I appreciate the point you're making nonetheless. :)

RYBs was talking about chinuch of kids; I wonder if it would also work on adults.
Quote
It is said bisheim various Admorim – what do you do when your child is next to you during davening, and he is daydreaming or looking around? So, they all say that you should not pay attention to him, and just daven. Daven like a mentsch, daven with passion and energy. If you do anything like glare at him or say nu, you are teaching your child that what constitutes davening is looking at your kid and saying nu nu nu! If you ignore him and daven properly, your child’s picture of davening will be correct, and when he grows up, that is what he will emulate.
