I don't follow. If the Torah allows it how can they prohibit it?
Allows, yes -- but discourages it.

The Rabbis (specifically Rabbeinu Gershom Me'Or Hagolah) took it a step further and forbade it.

Now you have me even more confused. How can someone go against the Torah?
Being more restrictive than the Torah is not going against the Torah.  In fact there are verses in the Torah that contemplate future Rabbinic legislation.

Furthermore, there are times when the Rabbis can legislate against the Torah, if, for instance, a Rabbinic imposed restriction prohibits one from performing a positive biblical commandment.

If you don't care why would you comment?

Deut. 17:8-13

8. If a matter eludes you in judgment, between blood and blood, between judgment and judgment, or between lesion and lesion, words of dispute in your cities, then you shall rise and go up to the place the Lord, your God, chooses.

9. And you shall come to the Levitic kohanim and to the judge who will be in those days, and you shall inquire, and they will tell you the words of judgment.

10. And you shall do according to the word they tell you, from the place the Lord will choose, and you shall observe to do according to all they instruct you.

11. According to the law they instruct you and according to the judgment they say to you, you shall do; you shall not divert from the word they tell you, either right or left.

12. And the man who acts intentionally, not obeying the kohen who stands there to serve the Lord, your God, or to the judge that man shall die, and you shall abolish evil from Israel.

13. And all the people shall listen and fear, and they shall no longer act wantonly.

If you like the psychological thriller genre and can withstand the horror- I really enjoyed Hannibal.

Waiting for Season 3 now

Meh. So far I've fallen asleep through every episode.
Disappointing, especially when compared to Homeland.

+1. Another BBC production I liked that just finished is The Game - really solid spy series. What I like about a lot of these British shows is that they keep it tight, and end it when it should end. Not like many shows in the US that just seem to stretch on and on, eventually tainting whatever seemed good about them in the first place.

Other recent series that I liked include True Detective, Fargo, Silicon Valley, House of Cards, and Manhattan.
