TracFone
« on: March 17, 2014, 03:46:42 PM »
Anyone use TracFone? Thinking about buying two for $10 of LG 840G White Reconditioned (HT:SD). Then they have pay as you go plans, including one for $100 for a full year of service and 400 minutes (*3 for this phone, so it's 1200 minutes). Seems like a pretty good deal. Thoughts?
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

i know this thread is years old but serves my purpose...
i bought a tracfone with sim with service  a while back. the phone went dead but i still have the sim. i bought another tracfone https://www.ebay.com/itm/284854089877
but this one cant be filtered. does anyone know which tracfones can be filtered meaning complete internet block? alternately, can a tracfone sim be used in a different phone?
Don't wait for the perfect moment; take the moment and make it perfect.

I bought an iPhone from TracFone and want to add service to it for 2 months so it can be unlocked. I'm not able to find the $20 3 month plan when I try to find a plan for the iPhone on my account. when I try to buy the plan separately it makes me buy a device. any advice?

Buy a plan on amazon, target, or ebay and then add it to your phone.

I have a tracfone flip phone that was used for over sixty days, does that automatically mean it can be unlocked? and if so is that a difficult process or is it relatively simple?

It not automatic. Relativly simple, follow the instructions here: TFWUnlockPolicy. Check if your phone is eligible and if it is they should email you instructions.

I just had an experience where I tried to unlock several LG Classic "reconditioned" phones that were purchased directly from tracfone.com and had been activated a bit over 60 days ago. Some were eligible and some gave me a "not eligible" message. According to the Tracfone unlocking department customer service, the issue is that the phones had once been activated before the rules changed to 60 days, so it stays with the old rule of 12 months of actual service and still needs 10 months of active service to be eligible ("reconditioned" phones are likely all the customer returns).
I'm not sure if they're correct, because I noticed 2 things. One, that of all the phones that I activated, a consistent 1 per email address was eligible for unlocking, while the other 1 or 2 on the same email were not, so maybe it's "1 per email" (it is officially 1 per person per 12 months according to the FCC (https://tinyurl.com/According-to-the-FCC). Secondly, some phones that were supposedly ineligible for the given reason showed a lifetime count of 0:00, making it unlikely that it was ever activated, while some of those that were eligible to unlock actually had been activated used (though no way of knowing exactly when).
I just thought I'll share this as a data point.

As to your question: You can simply check your IMEI number on www.tfwunlockpolicy.com, if it's eligible, they'll give you a set of codes with instructions. It's very simple from there.

If I would be able to use the phone, I would stay with it. Screen is dead.
Aren't the contacts save don the sim?

Sometimes contacts are saved in the phone.
And you have to move them to the sim.

Update/correction, I had an email with 3 lines and they were all eligible for unlocking, so I would be wrong there.
It's good to know that the phone doesn't need to be physically turned on and activated, it's enough to activate it online or over the phone with a pin. Unlocking is only in the actual phone though.

Not if you don't save them on it. I assume you're talking about Verizon cloud?
I always tell those who have a flip phone to manually backup their contacts to their Gmail account once every month or so. That way should they lose or break their phone they can access all their contacts.

Swap the inside to a working phone. Do you have another working one? That way you can salvage the motherboard to a new home. Or buy a new screen or have it fixed by a guy who repairs lg classics for under 60!
