Food on Planes
« on: March 17, 2014, 11:23:15 PM »
What do you take along to eat on a plane?

I have an evening flight this week along with a 3 hour morning connection. Looking for new ideas for dinner and breakfast.

Share what you bring along.

sandwiches

What kind of sandwiches?

While always a good option I'm looking for a new idea. For breakfast I would need something that can still taste good after 11 hours out of the fridge.

pb&j? just pb? just j? pb&honey?
tuna if you wrap them well

they also sell individual packets of 1 serving of tuna. they don't need to be refrigerated, and last almost forever.

While all these ideas are practical, I'm bored of sandwiches.

Last time I flew I ordered from Schnitzel King in Cedarhurst. They delivered to JFK for a few bucks. I got assorted chicken fingers, fries, onion rings and wraps. They sent all the sauces on the side. The food was great, and delivery pretty quick considering I placed the order 60 min before takoff. Picture a guy running to security with a bag of steaming hot chicken fingers yelling excuse me fkight in 14 min..  and everyone making way. Then rushing through the scanner grabbing bags and searching for the gate. I made the flight by a few minutes, but it was so worth it. I was told by a FA that looks like some good fried chicken and smells even better, where can I get me some of that.

Another time I brought along a bunch of sushi.

As good as the KSML might be its always a good idea to augment with some real food.

Used to bring fish from Cafe Paris, or for fleishigs I brought along fingers and sandwiches from Carlos and Gabby's Brooklyn.
Lately I been getting those huge deli sandwiches from Pomegranate. It comes with a good sauce inside, but be careful with waiting too long to eat it, the bread can get soggy.
Otherwise salad, fruit, deli are all good options IMO

Deli and shnitzel wraps/sandwiches are always good for long flights.

What would be a good breakfast option? Needs to be ok 12 hours out of a fridge.

Deli sandwiches are my go to food for travel. Ex- LAX i always get my PKD fix in.

Though not everyone may care, bringing really pungent food, may annoy some of your seatmates. If it is a long flight, you may not want them mad at you.

I avoid tuna just out of consideration (and the bread turns soggy)

My personal favorite for travel is deli wraps because it avoids the washing issue (ask your personal LOR if you have to wash on wraps. Mine says you don't)

That's another "ask your LOR" situation. Mine says there is no such thing.
