I have a United account that had expired 19 months ago, first I tried to add a car tental receipt, but none of the car rentals would credit miles for such a long time ago, and united wouldn't give me any of their reactivate options since it expired more than 18 months ago, so i typed up a letter to united to ask them for an exception, but their answer was negative, is there any other way to try or its a lost case ?
Here is their response:
Thanks for taking the time to write to us. We’re glad to hear from you.
I can certainly understand your disappointment when you found out your miles had expired. I know those who don’t travel often (or not at all) may find it more difficult to keep up with their account and apparently this was the situation in your case. I’m sorry, but I’m unable to provide any options to reinstate your miles because they expired more than 18 months ago.
To ensure active participation in our program, we require that members have some kind of qualifying activity (miles in or out of the account) every 18 months. You can even track the expiration date of your miles online (next to your mileage balance) when signed into your account. The expiration date resets for another 18 months after any qualifying activity posts to your account.
We want our members to enjoy and be engaged in the MileagePlus program. In addition to flying, there are many ways to keep your account active. Please visit
www.united.com/earnmiles and
www.united.com/usemiles to see just how many options there are to earn and use your miles every day.
Complete details of our mileage expiration policy are available on our MileagePlus Rules page at
www.mileageplus.com/rules .
We look forward to your active participation in MileagePlus in the future.
Don't hesitate to contact us again if there’s any other way we can help.
