This is a stretch but just found out that I had two separate United  accounts and one of them have miles that expired on August 1, 2014. Does anyone have anything from December 23, 2013-August 1, 2014 that can help reinstate it?

Right. So who rents from Hertz and isn't a member of Hertz gold?

Rent with a United Club card. Although I'm not sure that's what you meant.

another 2 more option to get miles back....
3) Register and fly. Register for $200, and then complete qualifying
roundtrip travel on United, United Express or Copa You must register
within 18 months of your mileage expiration date, and complete travel
within 90 days of registration. The registration fee is non-refundable.

Do you actually have to take the flight, or is it enough to book it?

So I have an interesting situation here.

Miles expired on 10/1/15.

Any way to get them back with car rental or hotel? Or do I need to find one from precisely one day (9/30/15)?

It can be a rental from anytime before they expired but you have to do it before 10/1/16 so you don't have much time.

Question is if the rental company will allow me to credit miles to a rental from more than a year ago?

I have a United account that had expired 19 months ago, first I tried to add a car tental receipt, but none of the car rentals would credit miles for such a long time ago, and united wouldn't give me any of their reactivate options since it expired more than 18 months ago, so i typed up a letter to united to ask them for an exception, but their answer was negative, is there any other way to try or its a lost case ?

Here is their response:

Thanks for taking the time to write to us. We’re glad to hear from you.

I can certainly understand your disappointment when you found out your miles had expired.  I know those who don’t travel often (or not at all) may find it more difficult to keep up with their account and apparently this was the situation in your case.  I’m sorry, but I’m unable to provide any options to reinstate your miles because they expired more than 18 months ago.
To ensure active participation in our program, we require that members have some kind of qualifying activity (miles in or out of the account) every 18 months.  You can even track the expiration date of your miles online (next to your mileage balance) when signed into your account.  The expiration date resets for another 18 months after any qualifying activity posts to your account.

We want our members to enjoy and be engaged in the MileagePlus program.  In addition to flying, there are many ways to keep your account active.  Please visit www.united.com/earnmiles and www.united.com/usemiles to see just how many options there are to earn and use your miles every day.

Complete details of our mileage expiration policy are available on our MileagePlus Rules page at www.mileageplus.com/rules .

We look forward to your active participation in MileagePlus in the future.

Don't hesitate to contact us again if there’s any other way we can help.

Regards,

Probably not much hope, unless you can show that some sort of qualifying activity should have posted within the past 18 months but didn't.

American has what they call a reengagement challenge for purposes of restoring miles that expired within, I believe, the past 3 years (?), but I don't recall hearing of United having anything similar.

Does crediting a past car rental work to reinstate Southwest miles as well or only for United?

How exactly does this work? My miles expired last month, if I show united any car rental from before that day they will reinstate the miles?

Are they more lenient with kids' expired miles? they expired 2/1/17

I don't think I have a past qualifying car rental
