Interesting ending found a flexible supervisor who agreed as a one time courtesy to credit a prior participating hotel stay I had before points expired in order to reinstate son's' miles :)

wondering why not more is mentioned using past hotel stays to reinstate miles; all the emphasis is on past car rentals.  In fact with regards to United miles there seems to be a lot more options with hotels(Hyatt, starwood, hilton, Marriot, IHG) than car rentals which I think is only 3 that participate with United.

How do I link someone's past Hertz rental to my United account in order to reactivate expired miles?

it looks like 39K miles were slated to expire on 8.31, and when i logged into the account noticed that they show up as expired today (9.1).
i went and moved 1K miles from chase right away. and called United.

The lady told me that my miles will automatically be reinstated in 10 business days and that she doesnt need to take any action? does that sound right?
