Is it typical to get hosed with flight changes on award tix?
« on: March 24, 2014, 03:53:46 PM »
Hi,

I just got boned by United for award travel for my wife and I to Colorado in the spring... When I logged in to check on the flight time because my wife asked me when we were leaving there was a notice that there had been a change, and that I needed to click "Okay" to proceed and approve it (they never did email me about the change).

Anyway, what was about a 1 1/2 hour layover on the way turned into over 8 hours. I checked flight availability and there is another flight that has only about 1 1/2 hour layover that they could have put us on, but it wasn't in the super saver category or whatever they call it. (I paid 50,000 miles R/T for both of us). There were no saver fares available at all currently.

I guess my question is if this is typical--to get stuck with the absolute worst connections they can stick you with since it is award travel?

Anything I can do or just suck it up and use my Denver United Lounge Passes to eat the stale peanuts?

Thanks,

PDG

Did you even try calling? bc I would bet moeny if you call they would be willing to put  on the flights u wanted. But if you would rather just keep complaining then go right ahead.

Thanks for the snarky reply.

In fact, I did call and they said I could re-book for double the miles.

Wow. With that reply I am sure you are about to get more help.

Nowhere did you say that you called. And to think you still need help, good luck with that.

Yet ill still reply. Steps for you to follow:
1. HUCA.
2. If still told no ask for supervisor.
3. If sill told no repeat steps 1 and 2.
4. If still told no try tweeting them.

If you dont want to try those things then by all means go on complaining.

Yeah Chuckster, and I suppose the first response was NOT an "" response, huh?!  I should have put the additional info that I called in there, but its absence does not call for a smart-ass reply. No reply would be better than that.

Get real.

myb821, thanks for the additional help. I'll try again and hope to get a more accommodating agent. If not, I will come back and complain just to hear what kind of great replies I might get from Chuck-o.

That rule isn't enforced.
