baggage fees and overweight fees

yikes these fees are a killer,
i paid $250 additional to my ticket on my last 2 flights because I checked 2 bags and one was 2 pounds overweight.
Has anyone figured out a way to get around the baggage fees and overweight fees (I'm going to try the curbside check-in that someone recommended on my next flight...)
any other ideas?

If you were just two pounds over why didn't you just take somthing out??? And usually if you give the curbside guy a nice tip right off the bat he usually will take care of you.

does anyone know the if the fee on delta is for israel too and how much and what else should I know i'm flying on sun
